if your intending to use an AR15 clone for medium game like deer or hogs your option ,
of swapping to a different cartridge chambering, from 223 remington can make the rifle a much more effective tool.
Id strongly suggest the 6.8 spc is one of the better options, simply because the almost same physical size magazines
hold 25 vs the 223 cartridges' 30 shots, per mag, these rifles feed and function mostly flawlessly(even better than the original 223 rem in my experience) and the 6.8 has much better retained impact energy past 350 yards,
yet its still a very flat shooting battle cartridge. and yes your ability to handload ammos a big factor,
in your maintaining a decent ammo supply,,( while the 223 rem/5.56 ammo is more easily obtained and cheaper)
there's a very noticeable increase in impact energy with the larger cartridge in practical use., enough so,
that your are much closer to the performance of a true battle rifle like a M14 in 308 win.
