keep in mind most of these cartridges are considered rather obsolete,
and were replaced in many areas with the
375 H&H, 378 Weatherby, 416 REMINGTON
458 Winchester, 458 LOTT, 378 WEATHERBY
keep in mind larger rifle bore diameter's have a significantly larger cross sectional area thus more resistance to penetration
more modern (generally smaller bores and higher velocity cartridges) can penetrate deeply, and huge leaps in projectile design
also have greatly increased accuracy and deeper penetration.
if your projectile easily destroys the vital organs or shatters structural bone, it will generally provide rapid lethal results/
the .375-416 bore diameter cartridges in the hands of a skilled shot will kill anything walking, but the .458 diameter and larger bores have a well deserved reputation for causing impressive internal damage, and bone breaking impact energy
.(this can be important if somethings trying to shred and stomp your ASS with teeth,
horns and claws and hundred's of lbs of pissed off muscle behind them.
a well placed shot from a 30/06 will kill any elephant or lion, but in the 10-60 seconds the smaller bullets mortal wound resulted in,
it caused, takes full effect you could be torn to shreads(thus the need for stopping rifles)
