I've used the hariss 13"-27" bi-pods for decades , I recently found these bi-pods(linked above)
they seem to be a very close yet decent quality knock off's
Id point out that the 13" setting is ok off a bench rest in most cases but the 27" full length setting,
is almost ideal in many out in the field sitting shots while shorter bi-pods are frequently not really useful.
and yes having a bi-pod on your hunting rifle can be added weight and a P.I.T.A.,
if your still hunting but very valuable if your sitting quietly scoping out a larger area from some ridge
with your spotting scope, BTW it also helps if you print out and laminate a ballistic drop table and tape it to your rifle stock,
I recently purchased several of these, they are not quite as nice as the harris bi-pods but they are decent and less than 1/2 the price

many guys simply carry the bi-pod in their back pack, and connect it to the rifle if they stop to glass an area for an hour or so.
so yeah, a spotting scope or at least good quality binoculars in the back pack helps
if your going to be hunting elk out west in the canyon country, having a decent set of 8x-10x compact binoculars is almost mandatory, simply, because you'll need to look over far more area than anyone could possibly cover walking on foot. the normal procedure is too look over the topo maps and...

yes if your elk hunting timber your best armed with a rifle that's fast to use easily, and accurate that you can fire quickly getting in that first lethal shot, thats where rifles like a browning BLR or BAR or marlin 45/70 or remington 35 whelen slide action, are near ideal, because shots over about 200 yards are very rare!
that's almost totally different from the rifle you'll find ideal if you glass meadows from some ridge line where most shots might be at walking elk out a 250-500 yards, thus the equipment you find ideal varies with the area and terrain.
now obviously this is a bit tongue in cheek, because different areas may require different equipment, and if you watch most videos or out door shows, or read most hunting magazines, you might get the idea most elk and mule deer are usually shot at long distance in open grass lands. While this...
