In Search Of - Vibration

The corvette is back.

Luigi (the garage guy around the corner) is not the greatest mechanic, but at least he’s a nice guy.

He did not fabricate a new center exhaust hanger like I asked him to. He claimed that there was not enough space under there. I knew the job was difficult but hardly impossible.

As it is, the exhaust hangs from the collectors and a bracket behind the mufflers.

The vibration, I suspect, is coming from the pipes not being supported in the middle as is stock on a C3 corvette. At idle you can actually see the pipes wobbling.

The good news is that Luigi did reinforce the rear bracket and that seems to have made a difference. The ride feels smoother now. It has improved. I think it would be even better with a custom support in the middle. So it seems... the unsupported length of exhaust pipe is the source of the annoying vibration.

hmm. Not sure what my next step will be.

Looking at this 1974 exhaust images on Google. Do these give you any ideas ?

Maybe Pypes Exhaust sells these supports.

I can't tell for sure if that's rubber inside of there or just looks like it to me.
But maybe there is a high temp rubber that would work.

a great deal can be done in the area of custom fabrication,
with some careful and accurate measuring ,a die grinder with cut-off wheel and a mig welder:D
I don,t understand ,
why so many people in this hobby don,t own a decent drill press,

The more I look at this, the more I wonder what would be so difficult for Luigi to fabricate something. He says there is "no space" under there. I have been exploring brackets on Summit. It should be possible to fabricate something.

So frustrating !!
