A few years ago, one of my brothers showed me his "FIND'.
1976 CJ5.
This was--I think--- the left over parts of someone project.
It had a 350 chevy with one head off, no hood on it. One cylinder was full of water.

He asked me to fix it , get it running for his boys.
I'm 250 miles away, so I asked them to spend time with me and we can work on it together.
Never happened.
Frame rusted on both sides over rear wheels.
I suggested an aftermarket NEW frame. No didn't want the cost.
I was lucky, found a decent frame in a junk yard, swapped what I could. New brake lines, fuel line, ball joints tie rods etc. You know the game.
Rebuilt engine, new radiator.
I took it home to him, so we could put the body on it. Body mounts rusted away.
Again he asked me to make and weld new mounts on it. ( he asked me to weld up the rusted frame too)
Well, it is just sitting because it is over budget.
What do people think? He needed about 8,000 to $10,000 for his project!

having had several projects started and left in my hands over the decades
yeah! Ive had far more than my share of bottomless pit auto related projects, dumped in my lap and ,
invariably, they snow ball, and get RAPIDLY MORE COMPLICATED AND EXPENSIVE,
GUYS see some car show where a piece of crap cars transformed into a show room spectacular,
in 30 minutes and expect you do do something similar with a near zero budget and without them lifting a finger...
the cars owners can,t comprehend how complicated,
and time consuming things really are,
and car owners don,t understand why you can,t simply bolt it together,
and drive the car.....the financing and owners interest lags and the project stalls,
you know its turning into a pile of crap,
unless it gets serious time and cash into the project,
and its ALWAYS YOUR FAULT,that theres no progress made on their car...
they rapidly and invariably have zero interest in working on,
or providing parts or finances too advance the project...
AND YOU ARE ALWAYS EXPECTED TO ... FIX IT!
Id call him up and present him with the options,
or if he does not want to finish the project, explain the options , you
just pull the parts you can resell, and/or tell him either you pay for the parts,
and get your butt over here every week, to work on the car..
or you drop it off at his home,and/or sell it to get what you can out of the project,
or you re-title it in your name , get a mechanics lean on an abandoned car,
and finish it the way that you want it done

No man can work for free forever.
Materials and supplies cost money.

My bud Eddie and me go through it all the time.
We do Race Car Fabrication work together.
Always hidden rust.
I don't care where the car or truck comes from.
Unless it's from New Mexico , Arizona or Southern California.
Making parts out sheet steel always.
Fish plate rebuild.
Mig or Tig in.
I always ask did you get 50% down ?
Eddie says yes.
Last 50% often the owner fails to pay immediate.
Wait.
Ed paid me....Ed is broke...needs that last 50% due.
Guys BS Him...pay you on Tuesday.
I tell Ed do not give his car back till he pays.
Every time they have thier car not paid in full 2 days later Eddie goes Beserk crazy.
Tells me I want this POS put of here so I can work on my Racecar.
He cant....needs that 50% past due!

I keep telling him I will haul thier Race cars out to my farm with my open car trailer 70 miles away from Joliet South Chicago.
No choice but pay Eddie 100%.
Never find my Farmhouse easy.

All the True longtime drag racers pay right away.
It's all younger Millenials watching Street Outlaws don't want to pay.
They agreed to.

Steel, Aluminum & 4130 Chrome Moly Race Tubing is expensive!
So is Tig welding supplies.

Catch 20 business.
Get the top racers to pay all the time you need an ultra fast Race Car or 2.
One that runs mid low 7 seconds no prep drag racing time clocks off.
Another to Sandbag.
Run slow intentional.
Then run a true 9 second Pass Street Race no prep time clocks off.
