there are a MINIMUM or 23-40 million AR15 rifles currently in civilian hands
the semi auto clones of military style rifles are the currently best selling and most commonly owned style of rifle.
(naturally the political left lies and says MOST AR15 rifles are full auto/machine guns)

the U.S. GOVERNMENT ESTIMATES There are WELL over 38 million magazine fed, semi-auto rifles in the USA
keep in mind there's hundreds of thousands of these rifles made from kits most of which the GOV can't track
(this makes those wanting to confiscate all guns insane)
