now I don,t know too many EXPERIENCED mechanics that don,t have a number die stamp set for marking main caps, rods and putting ID marks on components but Ive sure seen lots of the new guys ask where you get them and what they are used for...

I can,t see how any sane person will dis-assemble an engine without some way to keep matched components like rod caps and main caps labeled in case they get mis-placed
mis matched parts can cause, problems that labeling can easily prevent
just remember to stamp parts lightly but legibly, enough to easily read, you don,t want to induce stress risers in components thru deeper stamp marks than necessary

When you take parts to any machine shop, get FIRM quotes as to whats to be done and the price and times and dates and take lots of pictures of the components ,list each component and have a picture and list of work to be done along with prices on a work sheet, also GET A DARN NUMBER STAMP and STAMP YOUR PH# ON EACH COMPONENT FOR QUICK EASY IDENTIFICATION, in some non-critical area, example on a block, the rear machined surface the bell housing mounts to.

BTW the main caps should be numbered and stamped so you know which cap goes in each location and which side faces forward, and rods should be stamped to match cylinder location

NOTICE BOTH RODS AND MAIN CAPS ARE NUMBER STAMPED, SO AS TOO BE INSURING PROPER RE-LOCATION, AND DIRECTION THE PARTS FACE,FAILURE TO MARK AND CORRECTLY RE-INSTALL PARTS CAUSES MAJOR PROBLEMS
