Old lacquer man

I painted a fair number of bikes back in the 70s with dupont and ppg lacquer and did a pretty good job. I am now starting on an inherited project, 1931 Desoto roadster that has sat in primer for 60 years. Checking on paint has been quite a shock for me, prices have gone through the roof and lacquer is basically gone. I never could shoot enamel like lacquer. So my question is there a reasonably close alternative some posts to read. I will be buying an updated manual for modern painting.

I have used acrylic lacquer paints for the look and finish of the old lacquers of the 1970s. The Restoration Shop sells a AL that sprays very closely to the old lacquer paint. The better Sherwin Williams paint stores have a somewhat new type that lays down like lacquers, you should investigate that line. As far as price goes, you just have to realize that todays price is cheaper than you will pay in the future. :drunk:

I put a post here about painting 2 Vettes with basecoat clearcoat and it was pulled and disappeared I have no idea why. there was nothing but painting info on it I guess the mod I pissed off will always remain out to get me LOL

Whenever I delete my own or when I deleted Brian’s crap it would show just for all management I can’t do much of anything Other than clean pornography spam and send warnings these days.

You got to send me a warning Rich I feel left out LOL. Like I said it was up there for sure because I was mad at myself because I mis spelled a word but it is what it is something happened I know I'll live through it

Just for your information I saw riphvac's post that is up but I never saw the actual posts for 2 vettes. Caught the post that is there within minutes of it going up but I never saw the actual 2 vettes. don't know what happened but I thought you would want to know'

The lost post was about what I run into painting Basecoat Clearcoat and when laying on the color BC I didn't think I had enough color BC on the car and didn't agree with my painter friend who was overseeing my paint job but as per his advice I applied the Clearcoat CC and the color poped out like I couldn't believe so if this is the way you go with BC/ CC be careful how you apply your paint

I'm thinking that the HOC paints are similar or are Lacquer I do most custom bikes are done with HOC and most of the painters that I asked told me that painting with HOC is like painting the old fashioned way and lots of cars in magazine articles are also done in HOC
