and as usual, 90% of the infos in the links, videos and sub links,
do yourself a favor and ask questions if you don't understand how and why things are done!
you can generally learn a good deal from a careful examination of an engine on a decent engine stand,
if you inspect the parts before and after they are cleaned and accurately measured.
you might be amazed at how often you'll find clues to why any engine was not running at peak efficiency,
or why new valve guides, valve seals, a valve job, or new rings and bearings or a new set of lifters and a new cam are MANDATORY on your rebuild, and why replacing the timing set, chain & gears and the oil pump might be warranted!
skipping the links and sub links is generally going to be a big mistake as you'll generally find you'll need the info and sub linked info and having read through it and having several reference books to refer to is never a bad idea!
you really should read these links for a lot more USEFUL info, on block pre prep

Youll need a cam bearing installation tool or your local machine shop can install the bearings for you, if your not doing this regularly, have them do it, as its cheaper and easier,on a one time install basis, but if you are doing it frequently GET a decent tool and learn how to use it, keep in mind its MANDATORY that the oil feed holes in the block align with the feed holes in the cam bearings once they are installed,but theres an oil feed groove that is machined in the block under some bearings and may not be under others, be observant, think things...

before you begin to have a engine block bored more than about .030 over size its a good idea to have the blocks bore walls sonic tested
Have your machinist sonic check the block before you bore it.
calculate the remaining bore wall thickness, and if its not thick enough for safe use don,t bother
, bore walls are rarely if ever uniform in thickness from top to bottom or side to side, or concentric with the bore center line. and the STOCK O.E.M. production sbc block is well known to be fairly weak...

you will constantly hear people tell you that the noisy version disrupts the EFI knock sensor use,
but I've run a SBC pete jackson QUIET cam gear drive,
on my 383 for several decades with zero problems, and I've also used a cloyes chain drive, on many engines, personally I will use either with zero hesitation, but I like the gear drives
theres not a thing wrong with using a CLOYES chain cam drive ...

IM frequently asked (why bother degreeing in a cam, the timing set comes with index marks to install it?)
it basically comes down to, a question of do you accept a random install where the timing can be almost any place randomly or do you insist on maximizing the engines potential and know exactly how and why things work.
watch ALL the linked videos, the more you know the less likely you will be to make mistakes, Id suggest you watch several videos a few times and buy a quality degree wheel and crank nose adapter socket and a deck bridge and dial indicator etc.

THE cam gear rotates exactly once for each two times the crank rotates,the cam gear lines up at the 12 o'clock crank and 6 o'clock cam gear orientation when the #6 cylinders on the compression stroke, rotate the engine one complete revolution and the cranks again at 12 o'clock but the cam gears index mark is now at 12 o'clock, indicating the #1 cylinders at the compression stroke, you use the 12/6 index to install cams simply because its easier to align correctly ,visually, but you need to rotate the engine to the 12/12 orientation before dropping the distributor back in, the distributor...

For those of you who have one, factory or otherwise, and you have noticed your timing jumps around instead of steady, here is your problem.
As you accelerate/decelerate, the spiral cut gear causes the shaft to rise and fall, turning in relationship to the cam, and making your timing vary. With the cap off, grasp the rotor and try to move it up and down. It will. Shimming the end play is the answer.

Ok youve just installed your crankshaft in the engine block, with new main bearings and everything's well coated with assembly lube,and oil, and youve torqued down the main caps to spec. in at least three stages, and then gone back and rechecked the studs or bolts per the manufacturers instructions, but you have yet to install the pistons and rods, OK, its time to check the rotational resistance at the first stage, while your assembling the engine on the engine stand.

no, thats one issue I've yet to see!
obviously there's a chance the low oil pressure even if you changed the oil pump and got better oil flow & pressure did not prevent a bearing wear issue, or the oil pump is deflective or maybe installed wrong, so the oil pump drive is binding, why not take it off and inspect it if you feel is not functional

for many years Ive used an engine crane in the shop to pull engines, and it became very obvious that some mods to the system were darn near MANDATORY, ID start by pointing out the 2 ton rated engine cranes tend to be FAR more solidly built and have significantly longer reach and more stable bases , than some of the low priced import crap.
heres an area you really do tend to get what you pay for to some extent.
ID strongly suggest you rent or purchase a high quality engine crane and a engine tilter, as at some point your going to be at risk if the cheap crane tips or fails...

When reintalling freeze plug... sand bore, clean with acetone... dry.
Apply silicone sealer??? to the bore only and tap in freeze plug with a socket.
IIRC, I read generic "silicone sealer" somewhere. Is that right?
