and as usual, 90% of the infos in the links, videos and sub links,
do yourself a favor and ask questions if you don't understand how and why things are done!


you can generally learn a good deal from a careful examination of an engine on a decent engine stand,

if you inspect the parts before and after they are cleaned and accurately measured.
you might be amazed at how often you'll find clues to why any engine was not running at peak efficiency,
or why new valve guides, valve seals, a valve job, or new rings and bearings or a new set of lifters and a new cam are MANDATORY on your rebuild, and why replacing the timing set, chain & gears and the oil pump might be warranted!

skipping the links and sub links is generally going to be a big mistake as you'll generally find you'll need the info and sub linked info and having read through it and having several reference books to refer to is never a bad idea!

the more I look at these 6.2 ltr GM engines the LESS Id be inclined to work on them if I had any choice!
(and I may not have a choice as my recently purchased truck has a 6.2 ltr engine)
notice how nice having an engine stand with a geared rotation feature is!

after watching this video I KNEW he would be inundated with guys saying ,
the block should have been line bored vs trashed



I like the way the guy takes the effort and time to explain why he threw the block in the trash,
its rarely a question of can it be repaired, As a machinist, and welder, I'm well aware,
it's generally a question of what are my options,and what are the goals vs the time and cost?
as a machinist or engine rebuilder vs the time and cost, and resulting product we are left with,
with the machine work and parts and shop time, that the employees are required to spend, to go that route,
that's required. yes he could have used oversize bearings after line boring the block with new main caps added,
yes the registers could be rewelded and re machined, yes the damaged main cap could be replaced,
but the cost vs the resulting block strength compared to use of a good used block make that a less than ideal option;
both financially, required time frame, tool use time in the shop and resulting block, strength wise!
most older knowledgeable machine-shop owners would have given the engines owner a choice,
and stated we can repair your block for a cost of about (x) plus 1/3rd of (x) or replace the block with a used block for (X),
thus reducing the chance of a customer mis-understanding what's going on, and the cost & time delay to get the engine rebuilt

several hours of reading and understanding how and why certain things are done,
doing research and talking with knowledgeable experienced machine shops and fellow racers,

having the TOOLS and knowledge to be able to verify things were done and done CORRECTLY,
will save you many hours of wasted time and buckets of cash over time

as usual frequent oil changes increase durability, but G.M. has found theres,
a basic flaw in the GM/GMC 6.2 ltr engine design or components or assembly process
thus the RECALL


from watching the videos it seems like using a 5w 30 synthetic oil is a good idea

I see some places recommend replacing the standard shorter oil filter .with a PF63e(22m 1.5M thread)
I don't see much improvement doing it, is there a 5"-6" long full size replacement oil filter that fits?

ID really prefer to use an oil filter that fits the car that's like 3" in diameter and maybe 6"-8" long

most of you reading this thread have most likely never bothered to check some of these factors

and pay attention he points out several engine assembly factors,
its the less checked factors in engine assembly that can add up to make a very noticeable difference,
in the engines durability long term, and its power potential
clearances and assembly issues that may not be obvious,
to most people, and these are factors than many people might never have checked or noticed.
but in most cases by far, most people would not notice the factors in correct assembly that are reducing,
the engines durability and power potential, yet its the combo of (little factors) that ,
are costing the engine in both any longer term durability, and potential power.

every failed engine component has a cause, and if you carefully inspect any engine, its failed
gaskets,check,, casting numbers,etc. in most cases,failures are caused by improper maintenance,
overheating or lack of lubrication, or mis matched components or improper assembly.
the engine component,fluids,oil filter and other components
that failed will leave, visible clues as to the cause of the failure.
