Ramps for lifts

I’m too dumb to understand that, Seriously!

So did the guy buying you place appreciate what you did to build that place? Is he into cars and such?
Btw, I did go out and bought the black steel ramps rated at 3,000 lbs. now I just have to figure out how to use them with the lift to raise up the mower and tractor. Any ideas?

So what is your best quess a set of 4 of these would cost if I could find a welder? Or, looking at the second picture do you think something like that can be made from off the shelf hardware from say - Home Depot?

lift pad supports come in various diam and heights, why not look on ebay and amazon and the lift manufacturers web site you bought the lift from

Mohawk? They’re nutz for the price of anything they sell. I have a whole array of lift arm adapters but I need a way something I can slip in the hole at the end of the lift arm can hold the ramp.

Check this out at only $5,996! Just the steel, not the lift!

yeah the price is NUTS!
you could fabricate something close to the same for about 1/4 of the price in materials ,
if you had a decent mig welder, and a few tools like a metal crosscut saw, drill etc.
simply measuring your lift and figuring out what you'll need to build something similar that will fit

Guess I have to go buy another MIG and possibly a TIG welder now. I started out this morning by calling a couple welding shops near me to make appointments. The first guy had an attitude over that I would ask such a request. I said it was a courtesy I‘m giving him, he could be busy and not have the time, I don’t want to interrupt him. Moving on to the 2nd welder, I explained what I needed and I asked if he does small jobs like this? He asked me if I read his website? “If it says I do small jobs, then I do small jobs!”
Stopping at the first shop I brought my Ipad to show him pictures and started to show him when the phone rings. A minute later trucks had to be moved. After that the gas guy was there, then the wife comes in and needs a ride right then to get her car at the dealer’s. Now I have yet to get out what I needed to say. The shop owner says nothing but looks at me. I just turned and left.
Get to the 2 appointment the guy’s really nice, asks me if I want any coffee But I keep going on to explain everything indetail. Thirty minutes later another guy comes in and asks the guy talking to me “What are you doing?” It’s this guy’s first day working there, he was told to collect the scraps outside and clean up.

I’ll skip to the end . . . .
He wants $285/hr. Plus $75 in steel stock for each bracket. I asked how many hours does he think it will take and he said all small jobs are an 8 hour minimum. Huh? He knew I was fully aware of what he was doing! Unfreakenbelievable!

thats the INSANE CRAP I HAD PUT TO ME MANY TIMES!!!
I was quoted $2000, to weld up a couple custom intakes, and $4500 to machine a custom intake
I said screw this, and bought a MILL and the welder and had almost everything I needed for just a bit more that the $6500 I was quoted, and I made dozens of custom parts over the next few years.. yeah it helps if you know how to weld and run a mill(I DO KNOW) but for the price you can afford to learn new skills and it certainly helps to own new tools and learn new skills

thats the main reason I purchased this welder... now admittedly it was cheaper back when I ordered it,
keep in mind you need gauges and a tank of shield gas and if you weld aluminum a separate gun designed for aluminum that cost an additional $1100-$1200 (usually less if a package deal with the welder sale is made

talk to your miller dealer, this linked aluminum gun,
may not be the correct gun to use with the miller 252 but get a package deal,
get the gauges tank etc,
sure the wallet will be crying in pain but you won't regret the purchase after a year and several projects
and you look back on it as a good deal in a few years , wondering how you ever got along without it

yeah sounds real expensive but you'll save many times the expense doing jobs yourself, mines paid for itself many times over
besides it feels great when you need a custom oil pan and know you can fabricate one that exactly meets your specs in a week end for under 1/3rd of what you get quoted for something thats not ideal! but as close as you can get off the shelf

yeah the welding tools are expensive but they rapidly pay for themselfs

it certainly won't take to long to justify the cost when fabricating a custom oil pan costs less than a 1/3rd of what a new $1500 oil pan costs
