not a handgun but it certainly shows the need for power and easy repeat shots in rapid succession well

from what iI HAVE SEEN having used a 45 ACP on DEER, and hogs
the 45 ACP lacks the adequate and consistent penetration required
ID vastly prefer a 357 mag loaded with 168 grain hard cast as a minimum,
I have used a 10mm handgun on deer in the past and it is approximately the same as a hard cast 357 , mag in my opinion.
and my 44MAG OR THE 445 DWSM as a very relieable HANDGUN
WHEN EITHER IS PROPERLY LOADED WITH 280-310 GRAIN HARD CAST GAS CHECK BULLETS
AS CLOSE TO IDEAL,
AND
IF YOU HAVE THE SKILLS AND FREQUENT PRACTICE TO HANDLE THE SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER RECOIL,
A 460 s&w,480 Ruger OR THE 500 s&w
WITH AT LEAST A 6" -8" BARREL CERTAINLY WOULD GIVE YOU A BIT MORE RELIEABLE AND CONSISTENT RESULTS,
DUE TO INCREADED ENERGY AND MUCH BETTER PENETRATION WHEN PROPERLY LOADED.
KEEP IN MIND THAT YOULL BE DEALLING WITH A SITUATION WHERE ITS RATHER UNLIKELY YOULL HAVE THE TIME
REQUIRED TO GET OFF MORE THAN 1-3 SHOTS SO YOU MUST MAKE THEM COUNT AND SHOT PLACEMENT MUST BE FAIRLY CONSISTENT,
yes I know that the much larger capacity in the semi auto handguns looks impressive , but even when hunting hogs you rarely get the opportunity, to get off more than 2-3 shots so a powerful revolver is not lacking capacity.

keep in mind, accurate shot placement, a knowledge of your opponents anatomy,
or the games anatomy, and proper bullet selection are critical to getting good results
the heavier cast bullet's will generally exit game leaving a clear blood trail

short version,of comparing hand loaded cartridge power, you can calculate ft lbs of potential impact energy
with this formula\
bullet weight in grains, times velocity x velocity /(divided by 450240)=impact energy
thus a 9mm has about 309 ft lbs,
357 might have 570-700 ft lbs,
a 41 mag might have 780 ft lbs
and a 10mm might have 624 ft lbs ,
a 40 s&w might have 405 ft lbs
the 44 mag long barrel revolver...

this is why you want a 8" barrel and a 168-200 grain gas check ,hard cast bullet in a 357 mag
with at least a brennel 21 hardness rating
and a 44 mag or better yet a 445 DWSM or 480 RUGER, or a 460 mag or 500 MAG

200 grain hard cast bullets in 10mm penetrate very well ,
many shooters can learn to handle the recoil,

a more powerful handgun may be potentially more lethal in well trained hands,
on a shot for shot level of energy and deeper penetration, but it will have more recoil,
and in many cases it will be a revolver with far fewer potential cartridges available between reloads
having a semi auto with a 15 shot mag capacity seems impressive but statistically you rarely ,
have a chance to get off more than a few close range shots at close range,
and shot placements ALWAYS critical
