Royal Purple Synthetic Oil Products Seem To Be In Short Supply Now

B&R Racing

solid fixture here in the forum
I was looking at Royal Purple Synthetic Hypoid Gear Oil last night on Summit Racing and Jegs .
Summit is out and Jegs is nearly out.
Might buy it from my Local O'Reilly Auto pay more.
Or make a trip to the Speed shop in Joliet IL Winners Circle.
Want to change out the Gear Oil in the 1963 Pontiac Gp 9.3 Differential last did it I think back in 2016.
Supply issues everywhere near everything now.
Could use Castrol Conventional Gear oil I like it too but prefer Royal Purple 75w140 or 85w140 for extra protection.

I have some, not much in stocks of American companies and I try to participate in company meetings like their elections and State of the Company conventions. They all have one thing in common and it’s the current conditions in new orders, production and product distribution. They all state the same thing Morgan Stanley reported in January this year. Shortages and back orders have little to blame on the pandemic. That may have sparked issues at the time of mandated closings and restrictions but when those conditions subsided and adjustments were made other issues came to light.

When factors like the change tax in the structure and the WhiteHouse policies to force a weakening of the US dollar to make US goods more attractive to buy had an opposite effect. Corporations didn’t spend any additional money, they saw an opportunity to buy back their stocks and options when prices were lower thereby decreasing their PE ratios and raised their credit ratings stockbrokers were reporting. Big corporate America used this to reduce their payrolls by offering early retirement replacing expensive middle management with a cheaper, younger workforce. In 2016 there were just slightly less than 200 major contract service providers in the US. That doubled in 2017, quadrupled in 2018 and by the end of the 4th quarter of 2020 there was over 16,000 contract service providers based in the US.
Explanations can go on for pages but the short story is the six weeks of the most difficult restrictions in 2020 only interrupted the supply chain for a few months. Companies saw their baseline profits soar tremendously during 2020 with decreased production and so a prolonged backlog not only continues in 2021 but more companies have seen the advantage and are shifting production and legally changing accounting procedures with plans well into 2024. If it helps any, just look back at all the natural catastrophes that interrupted the production and refining of crude oil, all the turmoil in the Middle East disrupting distribution of oil around the world, yet during that time when we saw major price increases at the pumps also gave the oil industry record breaking profits. When the second largest power grid failed last year with millions of customers shut down! Electrical providers saw their highest profitable quarter in over 100 years! I will skip the auto industry comeback 3 times starting with Chrysler and before that with Harley Davidson and 10 years ago with GM and Ford.

It's real important to take care of the daily drivers and performing preventive maintenance and repairs needed now while parts are still available.
The Driver Hotrods too.
Racecar has to be last to take care of although want to squeeze it in somehow too
Got back from my Job interview this morning. They are having parts supplies issues also.
Asked me a million questions how to relate with difficult personal Fellow workers. Thought of all the times and fights in person I have been through on jobs.
My Answer was You Need a Good Leader for the Entire Crew.
Without a Leader Failure is Imminent.
Seemed to approve very well my answers the 2 Managers in charge.

I watched the 1st video and start of project Farm video.

Seems kinda moot to me testing cold flow oil flow in a Differential because the ring gear is submerged in an oil bath lower portion bottom part all the time.
As soon as the wheels turn oil is flowing.
Then testing at -20 - -50 F cold air temps doesn't quite add up because most won't be driving going anywhere just a Large 4x4 Truck maybe.
Never have seen a video out where they test Differential gear oils at speeds 120-240 mph.
Check and drain the gear oil look for metal debris.
No metal its success !
Check with 200- 500-700- 1000- 2000 Hp power into.

Amsoil is good have to drive 4 hours 1 way deep into North side Chicago to get it too far.

Most abusive is Dirt Track Roundy Round Racing 500-1000 Hp into the Differential with 6.14- 7.38 :1 gears used.
Then Offroad Mudtruck like Jim Unforgiven his square body.
Diffs underwater and in chest high mud.

I used RP in my Z06. It reduced the valve train noise amplified by the stainless steel exhaust manifolds. I miss that car!

When I changed out the Front Pinion Oil seal and crush sleeve on the Pontiac Gp 9.3 Posi Differential 2 days ago I had the front pinion bearing off and a good look at wear on the Timken Factory bearing rollers and the Race in the pumpkin.
Zero wear .
I last filled it with Royal Purple 75w140 Synthetic gear oil back in 2016.
It got somewhat dirty from Remaining 1963 year gear oil left in there cleaned the crap out .
Buttoned back up with pinion bearing preload I wanted .
Topped off with 1 quart of Castrol 85w140 for now, lost 1 quart changing out the pinion oil seal.
Turning the Pinion flange by hand there is maybe .006"-.007" ring and Pinion gear backlash present.
Amazing the Car Differential is 58 years old never rebuilt by me yet and seen Horrendous Street Racing abuse by me.
I did replace axle shafts and bearings back in 2016 or 2017.
Used the axle shafts from the spare roller chassis 1963 Gp frame I have and NOS GM New Depature Wheel bearings I bought along with Aftermarket Racing Mark Williams Wedding band Lock Rings they make just for 1957-64 Pontiac-Oldsmobile 9.3 Differentials with Factory axle shafts used.

Royal Purple Gear Oil is good stuff.
So is thier XPR 10W40 & XPR 20W50 Racing oils, use XPR10W40 in the 1976 455. 100 psi cold oil pressure still cold startup sand 90 psi Hot oil pressure.
Idle hot its 44 psi at 1000 rpms.
Think Rick is still using Royal Purple HPS Hotrod Street oil 10w30 in his T-bucket 400 ci SBC.

I might use Amsoil 75w140 in the 1999 Chevy Tahoe GM 8.5" Rear Differential.
I want to Service that soon also.
Filled with Royal Purple 85w140 by me back in 2017.

I bought 6 quarts of Castrol AP 85W140 Hypoid Gear Oil tonight from my local O'Reilly parts store.
They only had 2 bottles of Royal Purple 75w140 and 2 bottles of Royal Purple 75w90.
Not enough to change out and refill the 1963 Pontiac Rear 9.3 different it holds 5 pints.
The 1999 Chevy Tahoe Rear Differential holds 4.25 pints gear oil.
They had exactly 6 quarts of Castrol 85w140 .
2 quarts of Castrol 80-90W.
They said they can't get Royal Purple right now any.
What they had they sold out in last 7 days.
Also said Castrol products getting harder to obtain.
Hit it miss when they find stock in Wharehouses they purchase to sell replenish thier local store shelves.

I have been using Royal Purple Max Gear oil since 1994.
Best I have used.
Castrol Hypoid gear oil they used to call Type C is #2 excellent I like alot also.

Have to look into that Amsoil oil dealer in Joliet this week stop by and see what they have.
Amsoil is most expensive besides Brad Penn and Penn Racing oils, high as $28 a quart I seen recent.

I spent $62 tonight.
6 quarts Castrol AP 85w140 plus the Lubeguard limited slip additive.
The Dana Spicer Limited slip Posi Additive I had put away.

I was in Joliet today after my Job interview at the Corvette and Musclecar shop.
Stopped by Winners Circle Speed shop.
To my Amazement no Royal Purple oil to be bought.
Found out why.
Management at Royal Purple have an attitude problem.
I don't think Royal Purple will exist much longer.
Owner got told to go screw himself at Winners Circle.
Got an earful asking where the Royal Purple is .
Dumb Ficks at RP.
Was the Great stuff.

So I bought 3 quarts of Redline 80w140 Synthetic Gear Oil with limited slip additive while at Winners Circle.

I changed out the Rear Differential gear oil in the '63 Pontiac Grand Prix .
Used the Redline 80w140.
Hot day went on a long Highway drive.
All the repairs I did to the frame 100% success.
Went Ripping 100-110mph all over for 40 miles and back home.
So much fun passing Everyone in the 63 Gp.
Just used 1/4 throttle to do it.
A couple tried passing No way I have to much Surplus HP 520 + !
