I wish I had had the room to have taken my old very similar shelving with me once I moved from fla to texas
47423615.jpg

this is the best deal I have found recently on HD shelving,
this shelving's rated at 2000 lbs per shelf, or 8000 lbs for each set of shelves

be aware that youll most likely need a few under screen slats added , or a full shelf surface area,
of 3/4" plywood on the screen for bracing ,if you stick heavier items like blocks on the shelving
I had full length and width plywood under the engine blocks I had in storage, in fla and never had issues

these shelves normally list for $299 but are currently on sale,
if you need a similar set Id suggest you jump on the limited time sale price reduction

  • All steel construction for industrial-strength storage
  • 4-tier rack stands 72in.H and features four 77in.W x 24in.D shelves
  • Each shelf has 2000-lb. load capacity
  • Each shelf has 3 cross braces
  • Wire mesh deck allows air to circulate around contents

I still have not been able to walk around much since my first knee replacement surgery and the second knee surgery is needed/scheduled next month, but Im sure trying to get back into shape and get the tools unpacked, etc.
yeah Im well aware the shelving will require a few extra under wire shelves support braces to safely support heavier items
getting a new HD lift and all the electric install will have to wait awhile until I get more mobile and hurting less physically

btw the guy that purchased my old home/shop , had it inspected, and the inspector stated
" I've never seen a shop wired so well above required spec in 30 years"

he called to tell me that

I was going to sell my old Franks Nursery steel shelves, but I have to modify them to be higher inbetween so I can stack tractor attachments in my new barn when it’s done. The only heavy duty shelves are going to be the commercial type and the only way they are affordable is to buy them through retail store liquidation sales. They are not as rare to find as you might think - Google for your acceptable travel range. I could find any in short time but that doesn’t do you much good.

the truck with the shelving shows up today, all packed on a single pallet that literally weights a TON,
the truck diver expects me to unload the pallet even though I had paid for the unloading process up front and in full.
he also stated he would only unload it CURBSIDE , not even in my driveway

luckily one of my neighbors is listening, and offered to go get his bobcat with a pallet fork,
if Id slip him a few bucks for his time/effort, I gladly accepted,
it took him about 30 minutes to place that pallet in my garage,
I slipped him $200 cash and I think we were both happy with the results

I had them add a small access door

well, its nothing like the shop, I built in florida, its a start, its 30 ft x 50 ft but its what I could afford currently and its roughly 60% of the old fla shops area, but its what I could get built under current conditions AS I needed to secure the tools etc, I shipped from FLA

I ordered 14 of these shelves, to use too store parts inventory, having previously ordered and used similar shelving in my last custom race engine building shop, for 20 plus years.
you can store several bare engine blocks, very safely or several sets of cylinder heads, safely on each shelf, if you lay a 1/2" plywood base on the screen to help distribute the weight. you can't build comparable shelving for the cost of materials alone
each shelf easily supports 1200 plus lbs (Im sure they hold more weight)
if you shop carefully you'll find many of the captively priced shelves are rather flimsy in comparison.
the last thing you need is unstable or flimsy shelving, so these are a very good value.

A body in motion stays in motion.
Being sedentary makes you fat and lazy.
Hope all is well at the new home!

trust me when I say recovery from surgery at my age is not something you look forwards too!
just walking to the kitchen, or johns a dreaded task

trust me once youve added 4 of these to your engine stand youll kick yourself for not doing it sooner

not every video, link, presents a great idea, but it's helpful to know your options,
and get new ideas, and most of us can figure out even better designs than the one you see!
