Street Race Truck

Very Impressive thread, it's amazing what an individual can do with some nice tools. I see you
sent the converter out to be balanced, maybe you should talk to the boss and see if he don't need
another tool for his shop. :)

I gather Pete is from Hughes Performance, what is his background?

Pete is engineer in hughes performance if i remember right,he knows transmissions and torque converters
I know basic things aboat converters ,how finn angles affect stall speed ,i got all stator specks from pete and it works realy well

Well I can't say I have ever heard of anyone building there own torque converter ..... very impressive !

I can,t help being
RATHER IMPRESSED WITH THE SKILL LEVEL AND MACHINE WORK GENTLEMEN:D

Wow! That turned out very nice! That is the first time I have heard of atf and turpentine being used together.

I opened torque converters, this looks easy job
I can use stock bmw stator only have to grind 4l80 inner race 2mm to fit inside stator so basic maghining needed and maybe machine stator windows bigger

It was clean inside,i have no idea how much miles that converter has been runing but hubs werent worn
I dont even know what model transmission it belongs
But size is right and thick core with brassed finns
Its gona work great

I did send message for pete he is gona help me with converter details
I did grind stator inner race to fit new converter

No,there is roller cluch inside stator so its free wheel one direcktion and is stationary in another direcktion

More machining
I did fit turbine splines and machined converter cover to fit bigger hub and made one oil seal groove to hub
There wasent seal in that location but i ficured out that lock up clutch release pressure leaks wrong side of piston without that seal

I wish I could follow and understand what you are saying, but without more detailed photos and
annotated drawings I'm lost, but really impressed.

Please don't worry about your English, that is NO problem.

Iw been reading hours and hours information fron converters and build several converters and now i start to understand what happens inside the converter, still i have to ask advice from pete for stator angles
Here is great picture where is all lock up torque converter parts
4L80E-1a.jpg
So basicaly i machine all hups and splines to fit to 4l80e and then measure outer dimenssions and machine hubs and flywheel distance to match 4l80e converter
I haven calculated how many hours it take to do that but custom converter are expensive
