the pathetically under powered mouse guns that guys carry because they conceal easily

this second test shows very well, how pathetic mouse gun calibers are,
Id strongly suggest that the 9mm and 38 spc be considered ,
the realistic minimum power level for an effective handgun.
the pathetically under powered mouse guns that many guys carry because they conceal so easily!
yes Ill admit even having a high quality 22lr beats being unarmed, but,
if your life or your families life's depends on your defensive prowess, use the best tool you can afford!
do your research, think through your options,
if your forced to shoot use something that's got a good, documented, track record for stopping your potential assailant
I've never understood the idea, unless these guys think that merely displaying, a firearm of any type
, showing that they are armed will prevent them from getting mugged or robbed!
if you must fight you want the best tool or weapon you can have,
look if you are limited to silverware you grab a knife not a spoon!
you always want to select the best option,
there's several flaws
most guys that intend to rob or mug you are not going to give you prior notice,
some will try threats and intimidation, many, well they are just going to try to stab or slash you,
or club you without giving you a chance to defend yourself!
that's the whole idea in their minds, making it nearly impossible for you to resist ,
so they can just go through your pockets or demand you give them anything of value,
now if they succeed what you carry won't matter much, but if your aware of your surroundings'
and do have the skill to effectively use a firearm, or your forced into a shoot out you damn sure don't want to be repeatedly exchanging shots,
where both you and the low life are getting holes punched in you and you don't stop the assailant with a single good center mass hit!
now obviously I don't have extensive experience shooting low lifes drug crazed muggers etc.
but I have tried shooting lots of wild hogs with a 9mm pistol loaded with 115 grain hollow points ,
of the bunch the 9mm was the least impressive!
and I've used a 10mm with 180 grain soft points, and a 357 mag with 170 grain hard cast bullets,
and a 45 ACP with 230 grain soft points, and a 44 mag with 300 grain hard cast bullets, and I can assure you,
from the results I've seen that the least effective option was a 9mm, even with very good shot placement.
shot placements critical, but penetration and impact energy matters, on everything I tried with less than the 357 mag/10mm power level was not very effective at stopping wild pigs rapidly, with a good hit to the shoulder. now seeing that ,I just can't imaging trying to defend myself with some handgun that I've seen 100 lb-140 lb pigs hit with, that just seemed to ignore the hits at least for several minutes, that required a long tracking job and some seemed un-effectively bothered, even with good hits.

no handgun has near the potential of most shotguns or rifles,
yes shot placements critical but having reasonable penetration also required

from my hunting experience ID suggest you select a cartridge that has a 400 ft lb minimum muzzle energy
(and ID certainly prefer 600 plus ft lbs) (btw you calculate muzzle energy or impact energy with the following formula)
projectile weight in grains x velocity x velocity divided by 450240=energy
run your favorite cartridge specs, through that formula, to calculate energy

look over this link, the ammo you select for your handgun, the ammo and projectile matters a great deal,
as it drastically effects the performance you can reasonably expect.

I would much rather work a little harder trying to hide my gun than pull something thats not going to work. If I ever have to pull a gun (God forbid) in a bad situation I want to make big holes

now obviously most of us never get much actual on site , hands on, experience shooting home invaders or muggers,
obviously for financial and legal reasons lethal defensive confrontations should be avoided if possible,
but remember the only rule in a gunfight is WIN AND WIN QUICKLY AND DECISIVELY

but I have fairly extensive experience shooting deer & hogs with various handguns, and watching the results other people have gotten.
and from those results I can assure you that a 357 mag has had a noticeably more pronounced effect,
on game, on bullet impact than a 9mm or even a 45 acp, and none of those comes close to the results I see,
from the 44 mag, 445 DWSM, or the larger caliber handguns.
thus I have gained a bit more respect for the magnum revolver cartridge handguns that the typical semi autos...
yes I carry a glock 10mm most of the time, but that's mostly because I've seen it work consistently well on hogs, similar to a 357 mag,
and a glock 10mm has a 15 shot magazine.
(I'd rather carry a S&W 1006, 10mm, but spare mags are very hard to find and expensive.)
every choice you makes a compromise at some point,
my B.I.Law carries a 380 acp, yes its much easier to conceal, but I have huge doubts,
as to its effective use if my life might depend on the results.
one thing I can assure you is shot placements CRITICAL, powers impressive but only if the shots placed precisely!
a 357 mag would with proper shot placement prove rapidly fatal on any animal even a 500 lb plus ELK!
yet I've seen hogs with badly placed shots even from a 30/06 that ran off for over a 100 yards.

the video mentions HUNTING but its really about self defense and a lack of power

yeah there are a few back-up derringer pistols that I feel are worth having,
going OLD SCHOOL, with one of the few proven dependably functional designs
the high standard 22 mag derringer is the top of my personal list as it fits rather easily in many watch pockets,
obviously because its a 2 shot pistol having a few extra cartridges in your pockets a good idea.
and at point blank range that pistol, allows two rapid shots double action its totally dependable and certainly potentially lethal if you understand the attackers anatomy, but keep in mind it's designed to be used at bayonet ranges
I would never consider it a primary arm, but as a last gasp back-up, IT is certainly better than your fists,
and I'D POINT OUT THAT a good blade in the hands of a skilled user has some advantages
now obviously the LAWYERS in any lethal confrontation will be TRAUMATIZED by the idea that anyone would be so crude, violent and sneaky, as to harm some physco who was just trying to rob and kill, them or you when you had the audacity and absurd idea you could protect your life if assaulted. (and the only recourse in their eyes is paying them huge sums of cash to arbitrate a legal settlement,) even if the dregs of society, has a long well documented history of such behavior. remember lawyer, is the only profession that's sole function is to make a ton of cash for other lawyers, while slowing the wheels of justice, while they drain the wallets of as many people as they can in the process.

My pocket back up is a Ruger LCR 357 Mag I think its one of best pocket guns going easy to conceal and fast to get on target

yes the 357 mag ranks high in the " CONSISTENTLY more effective cartridges statistics"

with proper ammo, a 38 spc in a snubbie revolver is far easier,
for most people to use easily, and learn how to shoot rather consistently,
at ranges like 5 yards simulating the typical self defense ranges most women,
visualize, having to defend themselves at, and a revolver is far easier to load, unload,
visually verify its loaded etc. and there's zero slide to pull back or to verify potential function.
and yes ammo used matters as does the user's skill level , familiarity in use, and expertise.
your very unlikely to get consistent projectile expansion, from a 2"-4" barrel,
so a knowledge of the potential opponents anatomy and your shot placements critical.!
