Thoughts On Rebuilding A 350 As A First Engine

Hello, so I will be picking up a 350 later today from a fb market place deal.
$200 complete engine. I'd like to rebuild it back to stock/semi stock

It's going to go in my truck. So I'm looking for more of a reliability factor vs a track engine. What can I re use from my engine, and what should be replaced with new? Also, what needs done at the machine shop?

The engine has unknown mileage on it, as it's on a part out and the guy purchased whole vehicle after dash was ripped out.
He thinks 290K was the number. I also have another 350 that was original with my truck that has 130K when it was pulled. So do have 2 sets of parts

Please don't bash as this will be the first full rebuild on an engine I will be doing.

step one
think about your intended use and budget limitations,
the tools you have and the area you have to work in,
and realistically think about what you can, or can.t realistically do on your own.
step two
buy and carefully read through a few books listed in the linked info,
they can be a huge help,
you'll need a few basic tools and having a decent engine stand to work with helps a great deal

watch a dozen or more videos on you-tube on how to inspect and disassemble and rebuild a small block chevy
step three

you need to disassemble the parts and closely inspect the parts you have to make a realistic assessment of what your dealing with.

and if at all possible join a local hot rod club and find a couple experienced mentors,
if your unsure or have doubts at any point STOP!
ask questions and get answers you understand BEFORE you continue

do the preliminary work, in the planning stages,
get a detailed plan with all the parts and machine work and the costs listed,
it helps your results a great deal if you take the effort to do the required MATH,
get the cam duration, to match for the correct dynamic compression.
match the head flow to the port size, and vehicle drive train,
gearing , get the exhaust system matched to the engine displacement,
and carb or injection system specs matched to the intended rpm & intended power/band

yeah the majority of the infos in the links, and sub links
