Time To Replace The Front & Rear Brake Shoes & New Front Timken Wheel Bearings On The 63 Pontiac Gp

I THINK MOST OF US WITH THE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE AND TOOLS, REQUIRED,
ARE SLOWLY GETTING TOO OLD TO DO THIS CRAP!,
I KNOW WHAT i USED TO THINK OF AS A CHALLANGE AND SOME FUN THAT GAVE ME A SENCE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT,
NOW JUST SEEMS LIKE WORK BEST AVIOIDED!
(please excuse the caps I did not notice until I looked up)
yeah I still type with hunt/peck two fingers

There’s a few tools I could really use. The problem I face is my desire to work on cars comes and goes anymore. Simple stuff, no problem. Every now and then I get into something I’ve done many times in the past with no problem and then I screw something up and it blows my confidence to stay with it.

So many brands I never heard of for bat powered ratchets. No DeWalts found. I don’t know what are good or bad features, never used one.
What about these AC Delco ratchets?00DCA9F7-A944-44DE-A592-AE7C2F16DA1A.png

I Hit 114 mph in the 63 Gp tonight.
Used my Cellphone Speedometer App and Screenshot to verify in my Pinterest link.
Lots more left Top End Speeds.
Let off early.
Good thing I did because there was a Cop 5.0 2 miles ahead.
Pontiac handles and drives Really Good.
It's almost 2nd Generation Firebird Like .
4- wheel drum brakes are powerful again.
No problems slowing down from Triple Digit Speeds.

I checked Camber on Front Wheels and Rear differential wheels.
A touch Negative Camber within Specs A-ok.
Cross Caster Like to set myself.
Next Job maybe I can on the 4-wheel Laser Alignment machine.

I asked this before I think there is a better way . . . .
I’d like to raise the back end up just a little, like 1.5” I’m putting on new shocks very soon. Can old worn shocks have anything to do with a car slumping?

No worn out shocks will not cause the back end to slump.
New shocks will not raise the back end 1.5 inches higher any.
Air shocks will raise the back end up.
They beat the upper frame up air shocks not a best solution.
New Rear coil springs is the Correct Solution.
Bad is all Aftermarket Replacement coil springs are not very precise setting preferred owner ride heights.
May end up too high and often does.
Mooge has been most popular on B & A body GM for replacement coil springs.
The way GM Rear coil springs are made they are B-Hive wound can not cut the coils to lower like front coil springs.
Only way too lower too High new rear coils is heat up a section of the New Mooge rear coils with an Acetylene Torch.
Actually works Ok to lower from Too High.
NOS GM Coil springs are long gone.
I had to Replace on 70 TA way back in 1995 front coils and rear leaf springs bought from local GM Dealership for about $500.00 . The Good old Days.

Another solution is to use 1-1/2" Rubber spacers on the rear coil springs.
They install between the upper coil spring and main frame.

Its actually the Super Heavy Gas Tank and trunk floor weighing Pontiac Fullsize down in back .
All gone in the 63 Grand Prix.
Lost 200 lbs when a
I cut it all.out.
Jaz Drag 16 gallon fuel cell now.
Trunk floor bought or made at Ed's house.
Probably Drag Car Trunk floor made from sheet aluminum to save weight Aircraft Rivit it in.

Want to take to the rear coil springs of the spare roller frame and install into the Pontiac soon.
They bolt in on my car.
Upper and lower Crecent Plates bolt in to retain each real coil.
68 Catalina may be same.

Rear Coil over Drag shocks are Best .
Super precise ride height set.
Adjust with spanner wrenches.
Double adjustable also for compression and rebound.
A 4130 Chromemoly Round bar tubing 1-1/2 " has to be Tig welded between frame rails.
Mounting tabs Tig welded on to coil over shock upper bar and on the Rear Differential we do that at Ed's Garage alot.
What I will do eventually on the Gp, use the spare Super Nice Roller Frame be in 2022 year.

Super precise ride height is needed for ultra high speeds 150-240 -400 mph.
Aerodynamics needed.
Often just 1-2 inches off the ground frame rails

Things start getting sketchy at 140 mph ride heights too high 4-5 inches ground clearances.
Car lifts off the ground literally.

I’m an odd-ball, I don’t like low riders. When I was a kid we all jacked the rear up several inches. I was lowering the car on the lift and just before it hit bottom is where it looked really good to me.

Another way in past is use Airbags inside of GM Coil springs.
GTO Guys used them in 1980s and 1990s
