there are basically three classes of very accurate rifles
calibers vary to match intended use, optics and accessories required ,
to effectively use the rifles, can exceed the rifle base price
back in the U.S. civil war having a sharps rifle that could consistently hit a 10" circle from 300 yards was considered impressive
it takes training and practice to hit targets at longer ranges consistently, most people can't consistently hit a soda can at 300 yards
on the first shot if their lives depended on it. most "sporter rifles" are expected to be able to consistently provide a 1"-1.5" 100 yard group off a good bench rest, many will in skilled hands with good ammo, but its the optics and riflemans skill that is frequently the weak point and most sporting rifles will not provide consistent point of aim if rapidly fired repeatedly.
hunting rifles are rarely required to maintain consistent point of aim after about 4-6 rapid shots although many will do so.
consistent accuracy at extreme ranges gets rapidly more expensive, as the quality of rifles and optics are required increases.
civilian varmint rifles can be exceptionally accurate, most people try to get better accuracy than
,lets say the minute of angle or a 10" 1000 yard group.
but rifles are generally not designed,
to be fired rapidly or frequently, for longer time frames, and still maintain the peak accuracy
calibers tend to fall in the 22cal-338 mag range and use tends to be at under 800-1000 yards
under 10 lbs is common,
prices in the $1.3k-3k for the rifle without accessories are common
ammo generally can cost over $2-$3 a cartridge thus for most reloading is advisable
example
civilian competition rifles tend to stretch the range and accuracy but tend to be significantly heavier
and not designed to be carried as easily as the common varmint rifles
but are generally designed,
to be fired rapidly or frequently, and still maintain the peak accuracy
calibers tend to fall in the 6.5mm- 338 lapua range and use tends to be at over 500 yards but mostly under 1800 yards
weights over about 18 lbs are less common, prices in the $2k-4k PLUS for the rifle without accessories & optics are common
ammo generally can cost over $5 a cartridge thus for most reloading is mandatory
110 Elite Precision | MDT ACC Chassis | Savage Arms
The 110 Elite Precision offers superior long range accuracy with an adjustable MDT ACC chassis, ARCA rail, and stainless steel receiver. Available in Left Hand.
military sniper rifles tend to stretch the range and accuracy but tend to be significantly heavier,
they tend to be marginally , to much heavier , designed to allow rapid repeat and consistent use, they may be marginally less accurate, but still maintain impressive, accuracy with great consistency.
calibers tend to fall in the 338 lapua - 50 cal browning range and the intended use tends to be at 300 yards to over 3500 yards
weights well over about 36-50 lbs are common,
common prices for the basic rifle fall in the $4k-13k PLUS for the rifle without OPTICS & accessories are common
use of special optics and computer assisted ballistic calculators are almost mandatory,
the ability to stop a truck or terrorist at well over a mile with the first shot gets very expensive.
ammo can cost over $10 a cartridge thus for most reloading is mandatory
