What's Your Favorite Gun Oil And Cleaning Supplies Grumpy ?

B&R Racing

solid fixture here in the forum
Did some shooting this afternoon out back in my Cornfield yesterday.
Felt good.
Shot at a Few Large Huge Eastern Cottonwood Tree Logs I chainsawed up last summer 2020.
Used my S&W MP 9 Plus.
Cleaned with Kroil afterwards and lubricated with some gun oil From my local Rural King store I bought.
More I shoot the better the Smith and Wesson gets.
Still breaking the gun in.

What do you like and use Grumpy ?
Many choices out there.
Been Hot and Humid as Hades.

Hoppes is not as aggressive as some other cleaners but the smell doesn't stop your breathing and I've found that if you don't let your guns go and keep up with them it works fine I do use other stuff but it needs to be done outdoors

Thanks. I will go out this evening or early tomorrow morning find and Buy the Hopps #9.

yes hoppes bore solvent and frequent maintenance helps
I also use moly lube spray and several rust preventive oils
the real key is taking the time to regularly check on your firearms, and too,
use a solvent soaked patch or several on the rifle bore and partial disassembly when required to get a lubricant,
and rust preventive oil over all the working components and a spray of wd-40 on all the blued surfaces
placing handguns in a sealed Ziplock bag with rust preventative vapor barrier paper after a good cleaning and oiling certainly helps

storing firearms when not in use in a moisture resistant safe helps prevent problems
as does use of a few measures to greatly reduce moisture in the air, like a goldenrod safe heat stick and ,

The CRC Moly Lube I have to buy, come in handy also.
I believe I can order from my local Fastenal store.

just a tip I found, works well, after use of a partial AR15 bolt carrier dis- assembly, and cleaning with HOPPES #9
solvent and a stiff toothbrush, (obviously clean the bore, chamber etc as usual) I found dropping all the partially disassembled AR15 bolt carrier assembly, parts in a 2.5 gallon zip lock bag ,
with a tablespoons worth of the oil additive liqui-moly and a tablespoon of synthetic motor oil ,allows you to effectively smear a great deal of the moly/oil combo over most of the moving parts of the AR15 bolt carrier assembly very effectively while making considerably less mess and you can wipe off the excess and reassemble the AR15 bolt carrier assembly very easily yet still have all the internal recesses and moving components really well coated with the lube , just be careful and wipe off most of the lube simply because you don't want a fine mist coating everything including your glasses on firing the rifle the next time, as the lube does seem to find its way over every internal and some external surfaces when you do clean and lube this way.
(yes thats the real benefit, as all the mechanical part surfaces seem well lubricated for a reasonably long time!)
or put differently the moly seems to coat or spread internally over everything internally in the gun after a few shots

or you can mix a pint of synthetic 5w30 oil with a container of the moly lube additive

an occasional spray soak down with sprays like this lube linked below, seems to smooth the operation up noticeably
I ve opened the AR15, removed the bolt carrier , used a powder solvent like hoppy's #9 on a jag with patches and a tooth brush and some cloth's
to remove accumulated powder residue, and lightly soaked all the moving parts with the spray, then specifically sprayed the bolt carrier and trigger assembly, after each range trip, it certainly seems to help.
Sprayway SW289 L3 Moly PTFE Lubricant Protectant, 15oz

BIRCHWOOD CASEY Moly Lube Dry Film Gun Lubricant,

dry moly lube spray use, has a very obvious effect on firearm function and ease of use under stress

certainly youll need a cleaning rod jag, bore brushes and patches, solvent and repeated use of the moly spray seems to help

anytime you order lubricants ON -LINE pay attention to the shipping costs at times you'll see something advertised at significantly lower prices only to find its linked to VASTLY EXORBITANT SHIPPING COSTS
I've seen a can of moly spray lube advertised fo $9 that normally sells for $19.95
but it had a $87 shipping cost,
no that was not the shipping cost for a CASE, it was for a single can.

I got back from a local range with a new acquaintance, and we stopped in my garage to clean our rifles after the trip,
the guy I'LL call him (AL) was rather impressed that I had a full length, stainless steel rifle cleaning rod ,
with a brass centering cone to prevent the rifle rod from contacting the rifling in the rifle's bore!
various bore brushes, jags, patches and solvents, (considerably more than what he had at home) which consisted of a can of WD-40
and a single bore jag that fits a 22cal and a few strips of old bed sheet he has used for decades.
when you can cleaning from the breach is much prefered

While you can get by with a basic cleaning kit, with a few added accessories, if you have hundreds or thousands invested in a firearms collection,
which is VERY EASY to do over time you should take care of your investment

running several patches soaking wet with hoppes #9 followed by lightly soaked patches on a jag and use of a brass or nylon brush with oiled patches in the bore, and rubbing the outer firearm surfaces with a WD-40 soaked cloth is about the minimal care advised

these mechanic cloth's soaked in WD-40 make a decent firearm wipe, but they can also easily be cut,
with decent scissors into very effective bore patches

well worth the price (around $24)

btw just a tip seasoned ccw guys have known for decades, if you carry, your handguns are subjected to near constant moisture, from the environment and in some cases human sweat, even if not in direct contact, as atmospheric moisture will accumulate under clothing, if you carry on a daily basis thus your handgun will mandate regular cleaning sand lubrication, any guys seem to think a frequent dusting with a spray can of WD40 will prevent moisture causing corrosion, and while it might help there is an unwanted side effect, wd40 is a fast spreading penetrating lubricant, while it's helpful to reduce moisture damages to surfaces its rapid penetration characteristics, can cause a potential issue, if it gets in contact with ammo that's not properly sealed it can cause primers and powder to rapidly deteriorate , there is a simple precaution if you take a bit of preventive maintenance, simply buy a small container of girls clear nail polish and lightly apply around a cartridges bullet to case area and around the primer to case area, and let dry, this seals the area preventing the lubricant intrusion this simple precaution could make a great deal of difference , as it could be the difference between a firearm that functions flawlessly and one that won't function.
so it is recommended on your carry ammo and spare carry mag ammo

Clear nail polish
is used in nail care to finish a manicure and add a glossy, protective layer that prevents chips and extends the life of colored polish, or it can be worn alone for a natural, shiny look. It also has numerous household uses, such as preventing jewelry tarnish, repairing frayed fabric edges, securing rhinestones, and sealing bottle labels, by acting as a glue or protective barrier.
