Which Corvette To Buy

Unforgiven

solid fixture here in the forum
Been kicking the idea around about purchasing a vett. Wife is ALMOST on board.
This is new territory for me so ...
This is the first one....https://morgantown.craigslist.org/cto/d/salem-1996-collector-edition-corvette/6914920219.html

This would be the other one I was looking at.. https://akroncanton.craigslist.org/cto/d/rittman-2005-corvette/6908526691.html

I am concerned with the red one having a rebuilt title...
The silver has had some performance upgrades ...

What are your guys thoughts on this.

Id suggest you take the time to go and look over both and drive both,
to me its a no brainer, the 1996, but I'm most likely not in the majority,

yeah heres my 1996 and yeah I'm 6'3" 260 so it fits but not much head room
garage25.jpg

the fact the newer vettes got a rebuilt title also makes me a bit leary
verify the clear title and ownership and Id suggest ,
pull a car facts on the vin number of both corvettes

having a local mechanic or dealer check out the car,
and have the local DMV and cops check the title,
if your seriously looking to purchase it.
Id want to drive the car and put it up on a lift to
look for
frame & suspension damage ,look for water damage

and
pull trouble codes,
verify the air conditioner,
transmission,
cooling system,
brakes lights dash all work
theres nothing thats hard to repair on the c4/1996 or the newer 2005 ,
but it could be expensive
the rebuilder title vette may have extensive, past, flood/ water damage,
that will be an on-going P.I.T.A.

Thank you Grumpy.
I really like the 1996 also.. the manual trans will take some getting use to from the wife, as she will be driving it most of the time.
This should allow me to drive our Duramax truck ,which is her summer ride.
The performance upgrades don't bother me cause I would have done something also...It just saves money when it's been done already.
I never gave a thought to flood damage on the 2006... good call.
Yes .. I would test drive for sure, and do a vin check.

I'm not sure where I stand as far as the possible purchase... Wife has last say.

tony &vett.jpg I dont trust anyone's work but my own. When Im Vette shopping I look for 100% stock to begin with. Doc's,receipts etc.The more the better, then I know what Im getting into.

You will Love your new 1996 C4.
I love my Ragtop 1987 Corvette.
They suck all.on potholes rough roads all gen Vettes.

Great cars.

That's a nice looking car Night stalker.
I know what you mean by building it yourself... But I also know that when you build something yourself,
You rarely get back the money you laid out for the parts. sometimes it's good to buy something someone has
already spent the cash for on parts, if the price is right, and it passes a mechanical inspection.

After dinner last night, it's all moot anyway now.:(
The wife was fairly upset that I was going forward with acquiring this vette.
She said that I had to finish my mud truck or sell it first of all.o_O
Then she wanted new siding on our house , (that we built back in 1998)
Our gravel driveway needs more stone to fill in the newly formed lakes that it holds.
She wants a new back patio door........and on and on and on..

Then ... she asked me to leave for the night and don't come home till after she was sleeping.. LOL

SO... as I said before ... I don't think she is 100% onboard with a new toy ....YET.

Now. I will just have to pace my driveway with my head hanging and kick a few stones around until I figure out how to
make this happen while still keeping her happy. I can't finish the house remodel in one year, that,s for sure!

And she controls the finances.. Which is best for our future! Lord knows we would be BROKE
and prolly living in a cardboard box if I had control... But we would have some really COOL toys!!!:D:p:cool:

Old timers advice--NEVER let a FEMALE stay in YOUR house in a SEPARATE (YOUR) BED. Work it out before you retire for the night!!

That is some sound advise T ...
We have our little spats like most married couples.. Nothing even close to asking for a divorce stuff...
I think a little spat here and there is healthy for a relationship. It forces you to step into the other persons shoes..
But my losing argument has always been that her shoes are too small! :p

A C4 Corvette as is makes a perfect cruise machine.
Very low maintenance and super reliable once time sitting bugs are worked out.
If it has been driven regular and maintained even better.
Real simple to work on with the clam shell hood open. Entire engine right there.
No exotic tools needed unless you want to rebuild the A4 auto trans or Dana 36 or D44 Rear..I have the Kent Moore tools to do that work.
Some can be home made by Forum members here.

Wife will love the C4.
I was dating my Future wife .
Took the 87 Vette out every chance.
It's the car hotrod of mine she knows best.
