zombie apocalypse, teotwaki, wrol etc...

solid fixture here in the forum
a friend of mine asked me earlier this week what weapons i recommend he should start collecting for the end of the world as we know it, and more interestingly, why? so i took the time to explain a list to him that i think made alot of sense... he has been talking about govt conspiracies and genetic engineering and zombies and shit more and more recently... and he did drop the "ammunition is gonna be the world currency soon" line on me so i had to take a deep breath and address his question (incase shit hits the fan maybe he will remember im a good guy and let me in his doomsday shelter?)

first, a 12 gauge shotgun, remington 870. its cheap, reliable, and ammo is cheap and plentiful for your stockpile. you can hunt birds with it, and nothing makes a better close quarters (protect your home or fortress) weapon than the old scattergun.

next, an m16 or m4 based carbine chambered in .556 NATO that uses a gas piston system (not a direct impinging) like the hk416 or the leitner weiss rifles and a kalashnikov in 7.62x39 for the same reasons, take down larger game and varmits from a distance, protect your perimeter and have plenty of fight from a distance out to 200 meters easily with either one, and ammo is cheap and plentiful. the popularity of these two weapon systems is such that you can pretty much expect to pick up this ammo in most of the houses you loot looking for food and supplies

also glock pistols chambered in 9mm and .45acp. its no secret that they are the most dead nuts reliable pistols on earth, and you cant beat them for the money. i say get both 9mm and .45 because you never know what ammo you may come across... i would stockpile the 9mm ammo personally because its cheaper and pick up .45 ammo from the dorks running around with their multi-thousand dollar 1911's that cant shoot worth a shit with their match grade modifications.

next i would score a dedicated long marksman rifle chambered in .308win or 7.62 nato suck as the remington 700. with a good optic and some practice i put 308 on target at over 900meters through a remington 700 and i have to say its great to use, easy to work on, and reliable right out of the box. although i think its kind of a lightweight, you can definitely down large game such as elk with a 308, but unlike some more traditional elk hunting rounds (which i know grumpy loves) the popularity of the ammo means you can re-up at a later date should you ever run out.

finally i would get myself a ruger 10/22 because i can stock pallets of ammo and be ready, and easily hunt small game like squirrels prairie dogs rabbits etc with it. its tried and true the absolute best 22 rifle out there and its so versatile and inexpensive you shouldnt even have to argue. i think every american should get a 10/22 and a weapons safety course for their 13th birthday.

and ultimately you would probably need some edged weapons, if you know how to bow hunt, definitely stock up on everything you need for that... reusable ammo for the win there... i also think you should have a hatchet or a tomahawk for when shit really gets real GG&G make the best tomahawk ive ever seen... saw someone damn near literally get cut in half after a sharp whack with this to the clavicle:

what would you guys add or remove from the list for" must have" weapons in an end of days situation?

the 12 ga shotgun and 22lr rifles are about mandatory in my opinion as is a wide selection of ammo, but
personally Id also select a good bolt action in 458 win or 458 LOTT, and stock up on lots of primers and brass, and reloading dies etc.

rifles that I could be used both for hunting or defense, with most hand loads from mild 45/70 to full strength loads and a marlin lever action in either 44 mag,or better yet 45lC simply because if you need too both calibers both can be used with hand loaded, hand cast bullets and home made or a wide variety of commercial propellents
if my life depends on a battle rifle I want a M14 and a couple dozen 30 round mags and some decent body armor like dragon skin 3a

Hel Phil. Even my Boss has been talking the End Of The World.
Thank that Muslim Osama Piece of shit Fucker.

Any type of apocalypse, whatever its cause, will be a total crap shoot for preparation. How do you prepare for any one in a dozen or more situations. Aliens could attack, Nuclear world war, the power grid lost, Biologic attack, Government topples, no more oil, asteroids, the moon implodes, a sun spot is coming out our direction - How many guns and bullets do you need for anything mentioned above? Somebody will always want what you have and eventually have the means by which to take it. Without control murder will be a thoughtless act and then nobody can be trusted. Small suburban communities that pull their resources together and have sensible leadership may have potential for waiting out some catastrophic situations. Those that can hide, already be in very remote , unpopulated areas and possess survival skills for shelter and food, stand the best chances.
Having said all this I guess a huge amount of C4 with timers, igniters and trip hardware, A Marine sniper's riffle with a considerable amount of amo, a few grenade launchers with a huge variety of hand and launch grenades, night-vision, GPS, CB and shortwave radios, a few solar panels, a few good LED lights, An on-off road bike, a couple of great hunting knifes, A few bottles of JD and a kilo of heroin for trading, Some of those night flairs that can light up a football field. A few side arms w/amo, a few semi-automatics, a good pair of boots, a dozen pairs of dry socks and a first Aid/surgical kit. This will get me started, I'll pick up candy and matches out on the road!

Am not prepared for any of this. but in a SHTF scenario..
I guess if anything happen, i will just take a run (avoiding or running over anything in my way with the truck) getting the family setting them safe if possible and going to the gun store/police station anything like that or search the house of people that left everything behind(at this point in the scenarion, who care if its stealing or not, i consider any weapon(that is worth the effort to keep) that was left behind as a necessity for survival). Including stuff like RPG, night vision, grenade, c4, infrared anything usefull that is left behind, not only limited to some firearm(some vehicule may prove to be usefull).
probably just an axe and a big wrench, a hunting knife and something to start a fire, probably lots of trap for anything is a threat will be a good/realist start for me lol :).

Will probably try get fixed on a single firearm first or caliber,(probably 12ga, 308, and one powerfull caliber for sniping) so i can stock alot and only of that or those caliber as a starting point.

As for a firearm, i dont know. just pick the best one i can get the hands on?.
maby a mg42 and some kind of mauser action sniper or better probably something like a m14, good for long range and not too bad for medium/close range. and some kind of handgun, probably the classic colt 1911. or since its more about keeping alive, probably a short barrel shotgun instead of a handgun.
And find a safe place where i and the family can focuse on eating and minding our own business.

And a handgun is the last in the list, just to enjoy that and a few other things that may pick my attention.

fm transmitter and cb is a great idea. some way to make electrical power (silently if possible)too.

Jeep CJ5 will go on tight trails that no big 4X4 truck can manuver on easy.
