Quite the challange.
Took pics with my phone & regular digital camera.
Got a decent pattern on drive & coast side. Post pics tonight.

Great......now on to the next project!!! :D

"Got paid" , best part most times!

Re: 1948 Chevrolet 1 Ton Differential Rebuild Leather Oil Se

Yes Rick.
Onto the next project.
I have lots of them.
Think I want to install my Big Griffin C4 Corvette radiator next.
Its the bigger 1990-96 frontal area radiator than 1984-89 vettes had.
Have to replace the fiberglass radiator housing.
New Flex Lite Syclone fan. 2500+cfm.
Have all parts to complete change over.
Build myself a. CS144 high amp alternator for my 87 vert.

Can order my Isky pushrods for my '65 Olds 425 now.
Getting paid good.

Take time to restore a 1970-1/2 Trans Am original Ram Air 4 shaker hoodscoop & correct aircleaner base too. From one of the 88 built in 1970.
Going to put it good use.
Electric rear trap door opens when gas pedal floored.
Supe rare original Survior Poncho parts.

Pictures for Rick to check out & Grumpy to enjoy.
Difficult Vintage truck Rear Differential build.
Do a technical writeup tomorrow evening.
Hard to setup correct when pinion depth shims long discontinued & unique sizing & diametric cross section.
Scale of 1 to 10 difficulty, it was a 15 +.

That Funky Looking Bearing Race I am holding is the special Pinion Bearing Race I was talking about.
For Front & Rear Pinion Bearings both.
$ 550.00 for it NEW OLD STOCK. HYATT BRAND ORIGINAL. TIMKEN NOS PART USED.
Other bearings all NOS HYATT. Vintage NOS Parts, about 1959 from my judgement.
Leather Pinion Seal Used. NOS.
Axle Hub Oil seals are updated Special Rubber Lip Seals.

My Research, Leather oil Seals still have their place of use.
Dusty dirty environments they work best. Heavy Mud.
Also -50 to -100 below Zero F.
All natural & synthetic rubber oil seals will crack immediate in super frigid temps. Leather will not crack. Interesting find researching.

Nice work, feels good to meet the challenge, when your not sure going
into the project with many unknowns !!!

The ends on the wheel cylinder sure looks like metal, when I would
expect it to be rubber. Is it metal and screws on ???

Why the holes, is it for drain excess lubricant away from the bearing or
to help circulate the lubricant ???

One of the axles looked to be broke, but I didn't see where you had
purchased another one. What happened there???

Re: 1948 Chevrolet 1 Ton Differential Rebuild Leather Oil Se

I believe they are oil resevior holes Rick.
Should have taken more pics.
Pressure was on to complete.
Had it together and apart at least 10 ti  mes making changes.
See oil resevior oil holes in Pontiac & Olds V8 engine blocks in upper main bearings saddle oil feed channels too.

Manual wheel cylinder adjusters.

The brakes took 6 hours to assemble.
Box full of loose parts.
Few photos to examine owner took during his brake teardown removal.
Made it extra difficult. I had to figure it out.
Goes together only 1 way.
