1981 oil temperature sender

solid fixture here in the forum
my 81 has a oil temperature guage instead of the clock I cant find one at a good price $170 is way too much in my opinion any ideas for aftermarcket or other options

The oil temp gauge was an option on the 1980-1982 cars. This usually took the place of the clock when the digital clock moved to the radio!

How to wire it up and it's pretty simple.. Power, Ground and Ohms wire from the sending unit.

On the 80-82 cars, this was a separate connection in the harness and not part of the printed circuit. The printed circuit was different on cars equipped with this option but all you need to do is make a slight mod to the printed circuit to get the clock power leg out of the way. I think the tape over the old one will work, but I'd look for something a bit more assuring. The clock wire is hot all the time so maybe a laminate to cover it or something glued might be a long haul way.

thanks grumpy exactly what I needed as always you came through I will have a few more questions on this but rite now I have my harley in a million pieces & have a 1 track mind :lol:
