2004R no full throttle upshift.

reliable source of info
Like it says, no full throttle upshift. Normal part throttle shifts are normal and firm, but at w.o.t., it will not upshift unless i loosen the tv cable to the point of make the shift soft and lazy, which would kill the clutches quickly. The fluid is clean, no metal or clutch material, tranny feels good under normal conditions of part throttle, etc...Engages a little harsh sometimes from park but not dramatic. Also full throttle causes downshifts at a faster than normal speed, basically won't hold third gear at full throttle without downshifting. This is my '85 442. Any clues?

TRANSMISSION GOVERNORS come with SEVERAL different designed to match different rpm and shift points most performance application work ok with the governor from the Monty Carlo SS or Buick TURBO CARS

There are a couple of steel balls in there... they sometimes fall out and lead to that problem. Good chance it is the governor.

There are two check balls within the governor. CK shipped me a governor without them installed. Duh! I found out the hard way they were missing. The learned that the check balls can fall out and the spring can fly out if not staked. CK just shipped mine without check balls... and beware, they are NOT the same size as the rest. You can't just swap them.

Read bottom line of this one...

Thanks for the links and info, knowing my transmission aptitude, I think my friend the tranny man will get this job. I'm concerned it may be more than just the governor, though I believe that's part of it. Reason I say that is fact that downshifts, too far(too many gears) at w.o.t. when your speed is too high for that lower gear, unless the governor controls that as well. I'm no transmission tech and I readily admit it.

if you can, please both take pictures and let us know what you find as the info and pictures are bound to help others in the future

I don't know if the pics can happen as I might not be there, I'll get details at least and post them.

Did this happen all of a sudden? The governor cover is two bolts. Very easy to reach. Just drain oil and drop pan. It's right there. What do you have to lose?

It was that way when I bought the car, I changed the fluid which was perfect, just check for missing springs, etc... everything looked good then.

Here is what I would do. Pulling a trans is a pita. Since you are going through all the gears and you get firm shifts, I would narrow it down to the valve body. I would drop that and inspect it very carefully. If you have access to a pressure gauge, test it first. The. We'll know for sure the pump is fine.
