.22 Mag. as a self defense weapon?

almost any pistol will or at least potentially can deliver a mortal wound if the bullet strikes the right place in the anatomy of the attacker, and certainly having a magazine capacity of 30 shots is a plus factor, but a 22 mag looses a lot of speed in a short barrel, and delivering a fatal wound or even several shots that will prove to be fatal does not always result in stopping an attacker instantly or even quickly. yes a hail-storm of lead looks to be a formidable defense, but Id have a great deal more confidence in a larger caliber like a 357 mag, or 10mm or 45 caliber simply because I know those are proven to penetrate deep enough to destroy the vitals and break bones.
especially if you need to penetrate a thick jacket/clothing or light cover like a interior door or plaster wall, first.
now only an idiot would tell you that several well placed shots from a 22 mag will not eventually result in a great deal of damage to an opponents anatomy, and obviously no one in his right mind would expect an assailant to survive in a hail storm of projectiles but I don,t think the immediate effect on some drugged up or adrenalin loaded nut job would be as massive or as immediately disabling as a larger caliber unless you lucked out and punched thru the central nervous system.
Its not going to work in your favor ,for you to punch holes in an opponent that prove fatal in 3-5 minutes if during those 3-5 minutes he can still kill you with his weapon.
you might want to remember that anytime your justified in shooting an attacker hes more than likely shooting back at YOU or in very close range with a knife and its not how many shots you could fire but the first guy to totally destroy vital organs or the opponents central nervous system that's likely to win any contest of destructive strength, and most gunfights last only a few seconds before one or both opponents are hit, which tends to reduce the effective accuracy on the shooter who was hit,and a single 357 or 10mm or 45 slug is a proven performer in that re-guard while past historical evidence suggest even a couple 22 slugs are a bit less likely to instantly disable an opponent
or put a different way, which do you think would be more destructive one or two 180-230 grain 40-45 caliber projectiles each with 400-600 ft lbs of energy or 2-3 or even 4 22 caliber projectiles each with 120-150 ft lbs of energy
