My 89 S10 with a 4.3 engine needs a starter...... it probably needs just the bendix, but nobody here has them.
Budget is very tight, so looking for options ....recommendations from you guys. Even junk yard units would get me by for a while. Wow are prices high for these things......... my 350 starter can be had for $38, yet these "newer" 1989 starters are approaching $100 or even more. WOW!
My starter engages, then immediately disengages 80% of the time.
......and sometimes it grabs and works. It's been getting worse, and some day it just isn't gonna start the engine.
you might simply have a well worn fly wheel ring gear so if it was my car Id pull the current starter, and inspect the flex-plate or flywheel gear before assuming its a starter issue ALONE, you might also look into a starter rebuild kit, the links posted below might help
