I am Familiar with the downfaults Grumpy of a Race Engine Normal aspirated on the street.big cubes with the proper build specs, a high torque curve, and flat torque curve,
matched rear differential gears and an over drive transmission,
can get reasonably good mileage, the problem is that most guys who want too use a performance engine on the street,
build an engine too chase impressive peak horsepower rather than, an instantly accessible and wide torque curve,
in the rpm range the car should be geared and cam-ed too operate effectively in.
if you build an engine too make impressive peak power in the 5500-6500 rpm range, like most guys tend to do ,
trying too or duplicating some performance magazines dyno queen,
rather than a well thought out street performance combo with instant accessible off idle torque that may peak at 5000 rpm.
on the street with street tires a properly built torque monster engine with a matched drive train, keep in mind the power to weight ratio,
the lighter weight the car is the less power you need to provide to reach any performance level,
and the less likely you are to break drive train components or over tax the brakes and suspension,
if the cars reasonably light weight you'll need less power too easily get your car in the 11-12 second range but still get 15-20 mpg.
(that makes for a much more impressive car in my opinion, for street use,
than an engine that gets 5-8 mpg and one that needs slicks and 6500 rpm shifts to get the car running in the 10s)

well the answers not always strait one way or the other, a good deal obviously should be dependent on both the owners goals and budget,"why it might be worth the money to build a 496 stroker BBC vs just to build a basic 454 BBC, after all its obviously going to cost more money"
