I had a call to day from a guy I know , only from conversations, Ive had on the phone and on a couple web sites., who recently built and installed a 11:1 compression ratio, 496 bbc in a older 55 chevy , he owns, its an engine he built locally ,for a long time project car , he has built slowly over decades as a hobby, and from what he tells me hes nearly my age, and its a week end toy.
he had asked me several dozen questions, and for advice, several times over the last year or so.
he lives up in Florida pan handle some place near Pensacola,
but I didn,t realize he had progressed to building and driving the car until he called.
he was really impressed with the results he got, but keep in mind this is mostly an engine built to smoke tires and lope around in parking lots at cruise in, car shows not really anything designed to race.
the idea was to build a good street performance and street drive able, muscle car type engine combo, with durability and massive mid rpm torque as the goals.
and not a race car engine.
he has a tip forward front fiberglass cap, on the car mostly to make engine access easier.
he has a muncie 4 speed manual trans and a 12 bolt chevy rear with 4.11:1 rear gears
he gave me rather limited info but heres a few parts he mentioned and hes thrilled with the results, and while I doubt he will race or dyno the car hes very happy with the results and thats always nice to hear!

cam crane 138601 roller cam. its not all that large for an 11:1 cpr 496 bbc engine but it certainly seems to work as far as hes concerned.

Ive never seen the car in the current condition, I only remember seeing a few pictures of the car from several years ago. but heres a picture, I found posted on the internet that has to look vaguely similar.
