Hi All,
Looking forward to occasionally hanging out here. Don't have a lot of "online time" available, but will see how it works out.

I'm 66, still working part time, spent my career as a mechanical engineer working on farm equipment and irrigation systems for the Hawaii Sugar Cane and Pineapple industries.

Mostly into Chevies, but also some Olds and Buick, 1970 or earlier.

Finished my '58 pro street stepside truck ten years ago, a-body front frame clip, z'ed and narrowed rear rails, 502, th400, 9" rear, runs mid 12's at the track with 3.50 gears, daily driver. Always messin with it, they are never finished.

Finished my '55 4x4 stepside truck about 8 years ago, 455 olds, 4L80e tranny/transfer case, ford axles front and rear. Needs redesigned front steering setup, too much bump steer, have it pretty well worked out, just need time to put it back together.

'55 bel air hardtop, LT396 w FAST and upgraded efi, T56, 9" in back, minitub, work in progress.

'70 Buick GS455 race car, full cage, nasty but streetable rebuild on motor, back halfed/four link, nos if needed. Looking to run 10's on pump gas.

'55 chevy 4dr recently aquired, rough, six, 3sp, looking at a "gasser" club project using available parts.

Will post more later, Happy New Year to all....
Aloha,
Willy

:D Wow! Lots of old friends here. Welcome to Grumpy's Performance Forum, Willy! How's Maui? We've been having monsoons here in my part of Texas the past couple of days. My dogs are growing webbed feet!

Have you heard from 57Heaven or Clayboy? They live on the big island.

Best regards,

Harry

2loose, nice, i enjoyed reading about your cars and trucks. any chance we could see some pics?

oh and welcome , by the way.

Sure, always willing to post pix,
have a rough webpage (hey, I'm kinda rough meself....) where I post updates from time to time....
Working on my '55 chevy 4dr gasser right now, 6-71 blown olds power/DN 5 speed, it has a long ways to go yet, but is a lot of fun working on it....

Aloha,

Thought I'd do an update.....

The 55 4 door gasser is coming along, lot of work, more than I thought, chassis construction is done, doing cleaning, painting, hanging brake lines and gas lines on the frame, motor is all machined and ready to go together, a 6-71 blown 67 Olds 425, should make about 600 hp on pump gas, and I want to make this one street legal....

And it'll be a gear jammer, old Doug Nash 5 speed (in good shape).....

The '55 hardtop has modified suspension, and a highly modified 93 LT1, 396 ci, dyno'd at 540 hp, failry flat torque curve at or near 500 ft-lbs, with a T56 and a 9" rear, it should be a handful....

Wish I had the bones available to buy and put a Morrison C4 chassis underneath it....

and my other rigs, home page here....

Your not alone!
lack of easily spent cash, in large quantity's is keeping a great many of us from realizing our car related fantasy

You should really stop by more often then every 1 1/2 years. A lot of us could use your experience/feedback.

BTW, nice cars !!!

:D Sounds like a great build, Willy! How is your project coming along?

Happy Motoring,

Harry

Unfortunately, while putting up scaffolding for my 22' garage extension (more shop space !!!) I reactivated an old, serious back injury, and have been laid up these last 4 weeks!!!

Im finally on the mend, a little, "light work duty only" sez the head nurse..... so yesterday soaped/scrubbed/hi pressure washed/dried the Olds 425 block, that hadn't been done since the machine shop and needed it, today my very strong buddy will put the crank in for me, and I can set up #1 rod and piston (no rings ), the cam, left head with #1 valves and light springs, and check my timing, piston clearances, degree everything see that it is where I want it, then start hand filing the rings for the blower app, putting in the rods/pistons one at a time as I fit the rings. I can use a loose piston to square the rings in the bore when checking the gap. Goal is to have it in the car and running by early to mid July.

Sounds like light work to me, so that's where I'll be. As I get stronger, heal up, I should be able to do more and more of putting this beast together.....
Still need to lay under the dash some day soon and finish hooking up all the lights in the gages, and finish up my homemade wire harness, tying up everything with zipties nice and neat.....

I did start with a Ron Francis Bare Bonz kit, so had all the right colors, but I still had to sort everything out, route the wires where I wanted, make some changes from OEM to my street legal race car setup, and it is coming along just fine, it should be a really fun car to both drive on the street, and race....

Put power in there once already, no smoke, no zapping sounds, no melted wires, left it there for a couple of days and the clock kept perfect time, ignition, light switch, toggle switches are all done, still need to find those little clips that go on the pin connectors on the back of the original 55 chevy gage cluster, haven't been able to find them and my originals are shot, unusable. Might have to solder short pieces of wire on each little pin on the bulb holders with an insulated spade connector to connect to the harness, that will work but will take time.

Frustrating to have health issues get in the way, but it happens....
Aloha,
Willy

Willy, take care of that back! Been there, done that. The Big Quartermaster in the Sky only issues you one...... And you gotta make it last for the duration.

Wish you all the best with your project and please keep us informed as to your progress.

Best regards,

Harry

I prefer your web design to most... clear pics (except for the fuzzy ones :p ) and text you can read without a fuzzy background.
Every single project you have is well within my taste, but your Buick 455 made my hart pump! I used to have a Chevelle with a 71 455 that I had plans for but unemployment ended those plans
A 70-72 skylark slightly tubbed rear and a built 455 would be very cool... Too bad prices has gone out of sight for ANY a-body 64-72...

I'll still be at CT too, just wanted to say hello :)

Gotta tell you the pix I take to post are an issue with me, I like the way the color and "more real" look of the shots comes out if I do not use the flash, but I gotta really hold my camera still to make sure it does not come out "fuzzy", as the light in the shop of not that good and it takes a longer exposure to get a good shot. Sometimes I get a good one, don't move while the lens is open, other times I guess I move even though I didn't think I did....

Can't tell for sure until I get back home and download the camera, then i sometimes see some fuzzyness, but if the shot still looks reasonably usable, I'll do it anyway. The flash often makes the shot look too "bright", glarey, too shiney, whatever you want to call it, I don't like it as much as a good shot with natural lighting. Plus I'm just having fun recording what's going on with my project, so if it is close to what I want to show, I'll use it....

I use a very simple and free download program called "Coffee Cup" to set up the web pages and upload them to the server. Am not a computer person at all, but managed to stumble through this software enough to do what I want, and it does it pretty easily. Not sure if that software is still available or not, or if it is still free, got it many years ago, through many variations of Windows, and it is still working, these days on Windows XP, no problems....

I take everything in my shop with a tripod. It usually takes the camera a second to actually take the picture, by then I'm no longer even touching the camera.

I'm with you, most of the time I don't like the flash. Unless you can use bounce flash, but most people don't have a way to aim the flash at the ceiling. I have a halogen desk lamp that I can adjust to position right where I need it. You might try holding a piece of semi-transparent plastic over the flash, this will diffuse the light and give you that natural light look.

Coffee Cup is the name of the software company. Here is a link to their FREE downloads.
http://www.coffeecup.com/freestuff/

Do you use this software to post pics to forums ??? Or ???

Actually I do, once they are posted on one of my pages on a server (I have three server services that I use), then that url can be used to post in a forum. Looking at my website from a browser, Firefox for example, if I right click on a pix with "view image" the photo by itself will show up on the browser and the url just for that photo is shown in the address slot on the browser, just copy that url and put it in the thread posting sandwiched between
, so far it has worked every time for me.

Here's one here done exactly that way:

55%20Gasser%20Motor%20Install%2010s%20Sep%2009.JPG

That photo is on this web page of mine:
http://2loose.chevytalk.org/olds425two.html
and after clicking "view image" i copied this url:
http://2loose.chevytalk.org/55%20Gasser ... p%2009.JPG

That web page was put together using the "Coffe Cup" software...

To quote a very good friend of mine, it's "DUCK SOUP...."

That's how I do a lot pics as well. I do use SamartFTP to host my pictures and post from as well. ;)
