I recently got involved in trying to tune up a friends older big block corvette, something Ive done hundreds of times in the past and something Im rather good at.
now from experience I know you first diagnose the potential issues by testing for vacuum, voltage, fuel pressure , check ignition advance, measure ignition wire resistance and get all the normal tune up related parts like spark plugs , distributor cap, rotor , ignition wires carb/throttle body cleaner spray etc.
now after making a rather extensive list and testing I had a good idea of what was required so I drove down to a local (SPEED SHOP) rather than your typical auto parts store hoping to have a more knowledgeable counter guy and a better selection of quality components....
but almost as Ive come to expect lately, after making a detailed list of parts I drive to the store and fund they either don,t have or don,t even know what Im talking about.
when the counter guys that is constantly dealing with customers and does the parts selection day in and day out are clueless morons you know that they are not getting exposed to the constant questions of knowledgeable hot rodders or they would be force to slowly gain at least some insight!
I asked the guy and he said he had been there two years!
if you don,t get exposed to enough questions and problem solving in two years as a counter, guy and learn the basics, like what parts a guys referring too,to even know what hes asking about, chances are real good your not meant to do that job, or your a moron
