Small block engines capable of producing big block-like cubic inches are becoming more and more prevalent in the marketplace these days, fueled by the ever-growing participation in dirt late model racing and outlaw drag racing categories where small block-powered cars are afforded sizable weight breaks. Brodix has officially joined in the party with the release of their 8B 1200 4.500″ bore space Small Block Chevrolet engine block, constructed from 356 virgin aluminum and capable of measuring up to 500 cubic inches.
The standard bore on this new block is 4.180″ and can be bored as large as 4.250″ thanks to thicker wall sleeves with 1/4″ registers, and will handle a maximum stroke of 4.500″. Key features include a .391 raised cam design, 50-55mm roller cam bearings, 350 or 400 mains with billet main caps, and the option of .843-.937″ lifter bore housings. The maximum deck height of 9.625″ gives engine builders the freedom to utilize larger stroke and rod combinations. As well, you may choose from a wet or dry sump oiling configuration, with or without a fuel pump boss, and with either a drag racing or late model bellhousing style. A plug kit is provided with the block, and head studs are available as an extra.
