c4 engine smells like a burning belt
I got a 1991 vert when I stop after a bit of driving the engine smell like a burning belt but I don't think that's it 94000 miles no engine lights on in the display on the dash and it runs really smooth and strong its just the got the objectionable smell
any guesses or experiences of this
ID closely inspect the accessories its likely some components got a bearing thats worn causing the belt to slip, a belt tension-er,Id look for brake fluid and oil and trans fluid leaks,because burn fluids can cause odors,and Id check belt tension, because the accessory drives not free to rotate easily, an alternator or power steering pump would be my first guess but careful inspection should allow you to locate the problems source.
you might want to remove the serpentine belt and rotate each accessory by hand looking for resistance or feeling for slop in the bearing.
smell the trans fluid and or clutch and brakes as they might be the source of the odor, a partly clogged catalytic converter or defective O2 sensor can make the engine also smell bad, you might want to check that also
