calling in elk may bring in a surprize.

I was talking to a fellow hunter about calling in elk, last season, and he surprised me when he stated hes going to never do it again with out having either a friend watch his back or having a low power scope or iron sights on his rifle, it seems that he was crouched down under a blow down in some conifers and got the S$%%^ scared out of him when a large black bear came running out of some brush directly at him, he stood up and waved his arms, the bear stopped but seemed highly upset, he tried to get the rifle sighted on the bear but could not get a clear picture as the scope he was using was set on 6x and he had neither the time or presents of mind to select a lower power with the bear at about 10 -20 feet away.
the bear dropped and ran when a buddy who he thought was over 80 yards away (who was about 30 yards away, just by luck, as he was coming over to suggest moving locations) saw what was happening and fired his revolver into the air scaring the bear who realized there was now two hunters he was confronting not a cow elk.
