Good Afternoon!
I'm looking for input on a build for my brother's '68 Chevelle Pro Street car.
Car: '68 chevelle 2 door. Lightened. Tubbed. Caged. Mosler 4-link suspension and rear differential. 4.53 gears (currently, considering changing to 3.73 based on recommendations for drivability). 16.5'' wide rear tires on 15'' rims, with 33'' of height. Smaller front tires, but not skinny. Stock front suspension with 2'' drop springs set for a big block. 4-speed M22 Muncie transmission. Custom performance driveshaft. Car was set up with a 400hp 383 stroker. Brother wants a big block.
Source material: date code correct '68 396 long block from a 375 HP SS Chevelle. First time it has been worked on. Cleaned up and bored .030 over with forged pistons, rods, crank. Iron heads 3931063 that will be opened, ported, and polished to match the cam choice. Performer RPM intake will be used. Car has no vacuum accessories. Roller cam will be used. Roller rockers will be used.
Goal: 450hp at the flywheel.
Requirements: Must "sound mean" through the side exit, magnaflow muffler, 3'' exhaust. I read this to mean that he wants to have some cam lope.
Usage: Drive around hard. Show off a lot. Maybe run a pass or two a year on the 1/4 mile. Will not be run over 5500rpm (rev limiter will be set). It will use a throttle body style fuel injection unit.
My current cam thought is a XR270HR, 11-422-8 by comp cams.
