Carburator question

Can I cut down in heigth the carburator vent/fuel overflow tubes without seriously endangering the performance or safety aspects of the unit? The tubes are sticking in the bottom of the air cleaner I use, it's a K & N element type fliter top. I was thinking if possible of taking them down 1/2". Hood clearance is a problem or I would just delete the drop down carb base and with my 3.25" filter would be just fine.

cutting the vent tubes will have little effect on a properly tuned carb, but Id also be looking at the air filter design, and hood clearances, as theres several routes you might want to go,the filter doesn,t necessarily need to be a conventional location or design
