Who has used Chet Herbet Valvesprings ?
Are they American made ?
Thier Facebook page says they are.

Down to the wire on valvesprings for my 65 Olds 425.
Have all to rebuild & New Isky Cam.
I can machine the spring pockets deeper up to .090" inches Min.
1.430 OD.
1.750 " installed heights.
Likely get 1.812 " if I used offset retainters and offset valvelocks.

The only Drop in Valvesprings I have found are Comps 901-16.
Have to shim .020"to get 1.670" factory heights. Kinda of a weak valvespring and singles.

Herbert has a package deal on Nice appearing duals & Titanium valvespring retainers.

Can always get Isky.
 
Ive used CROWER,ERSON,CRANE and HERBERT valve springs, and cant remember having any issues, but its been at least 15 years ago for the herbert set, but the source I use the most is these guys, (below) so Id at least suggest you look over the options, and choose what suits the budget and needs of the engine, and yeah! everything thats decent quality costs a great deal more money that you expect it too as Im all too sure that you know all too well.

I always just order the springs. retainers. valve locks. and spring seat cups & shims as a package deal (NOT CHEAP BUT EVERYTHING WORKS AND FITS) then you just need shims under the valve spring seats occasionally to get the correct installed height

Have my Rimac valvespring tester Grumpy. Valvespring Micrometer. Pushrod length checkers.
Good off the head valvespring compressor .
On the head style compressor.

I have a Crower Cam install cam kit for Pontiac V8 non Ram Air 4 . Standard length valves 4.900".
Ram Air 4 had 5.200 valve lengths with 1.812 " installed height springs.
Special kit. Rather not break it up for Olds 425. Special valvesprings also. For a full drag race solid Pontiac V8. Very radical.
Going to daily Drive my 63 GP With Olds 425.
 
No valvespring rotators used like later Olds.
They all have short length valves stock.
Bought a New set of NOS TRW Valves for 425 Olds a few years ago.
Might as well do it right.
 
Like to keep the Seat loads at 110-115 lbs .
That's the tricky part Grumpy.
Small valves with 11/32" stems like SBC.

Could use 130 lbs but its kinda high for non leaded pump gas.
Plan on using a Leaded gas additive.
Old High performance Pontiac Writer once said run a few gallons of Leaded race gas with tank full of pump gas every 200-500 miles. Non hardened seats in iron heads will be Ok.
No micro welding issues.

275 # Spring rate per inch.
.480 lift I will have 267 #'s open pressure.
Hydro Flat Tappet will live happy long term.

Ron Iskenderien wanted me to use 130-135# seat pressure with his camshaft.
Best take his advice.
I will use CD2 Lead Subsitute. Have a 1 quart bottle. Makes 312 gallons of valveseat protected pump gas.
 
1.430-1.437" OD On Isky 6005 springs.
Dauls with dampner.

Closest match was Comp Cams 995-16.
Too much spring rate for long term street.
Pontiac V8 spring set with Flat Tappet Drag Race Cams in the past. Used that set one time 20 years ago.

Isky # 507 ST 7 Degree.

I found Isky VL 11/32 4140 Chrome Moly Valve Locks Grumpy.
Full set of 32, For 16 valves.
Good Price.
Pictures observed and machined super accurate and no Stress Risers present.
Smooth as Glass Finish.
Like Manley Titanium 10 degree valvelocks.

VL750 Set by Isky gives + .050" more installed height. Price tag is more $.
7 Degree locks as VL 11/32 --- VL-11-32 Set.

The 1965 Olds 425 I found on Ebay.
Back in 2011 I recall I paid $625 or $650. It was in Deep South West Chicagoland, Kankakee, IL. Picked it up in person with the Suburban and my trailer.
Pontiac 9.3 Rear last Summer I paid $75.00. I had to drive downstate IL Past Springfield. The 1959 Catalina Rear.
 
Amazon has the best deal on Isky VL750 + .050" Valvelocks. $83 some dollars.
Debating....Use them and machine seats down - .030".
Or spend less $ for Isky VL-11/32.
Machine down -.080".
 
I would Love to Add Crower Enduro PH-11 Stainless Steel Roller Rockers Grumpy.
I have them on the T/A Ram Air 4 Heads.
The Very Best before you step up to Crower Stainless Shaft Rockers.
Not in the Budget for this Olds 425.
 
Ron Iskenderien told me that the Olds V8 Rocker arm Geometry is Goofy.
None are exact required as are sold now in extruded aluminium .
Kinda Crappy Make do.
Crower has a dedicated Part # For Olds V8 in Enduro Stainless.

Factory Olds Rocker pretty Tough from my past experience .
On the Street.
Pontiac Factory 1969-70 Ram Air 4 Rockers very best. Won't work on Olds.
I used them for 2 years way back when Racing. Held up Fine.
Superior to Tin Can SBC Rockers.
 
1964 Olds 330, 1965-67 Olds 425, 1968-76 Olds 455 & all Olds 350's- 403's & Tiny 307's & even smog 260's had. 1.6:1 Factory rockers.
