hi guys,
new to the forum and hoping to find some help whenever I need it...
I am from the Netherlands and live in The Hague area. We imported our Suburban from California in march 2010 like this:
its our daily driver and we drive it about 20.000km a year.
We did a lot of stuff to it since then:
- it had no clutch to the fan. the cooling fan was bolted directly onto the engine. I replaced that with a flexfan first and then upgraded that to a e-fan.
the original fan broke allmost immeditately after it arrived in the netherlands:
replaced it with flexfan
and replaced that later on with e-fan:
will upgrade the simple on-off thermostat with a flex-a-lite fancontroller 31165
LPG is cheap over here (propane) and around Europe allmost available at every gasstation. So we converted the car to bi-fuel at first:
IMPCO 300A mixer and IMPCO E-type evaportator setup, with a 100l round tank under the back of the car. And a small spare fueltank as backup af 24 liter on the side (just in case).
got some new tires on our baby.
installed a fence for our dogs:
upgraded the lights of the dashboard so I could read them again at night and installed a small tach while I was at it.
painted the inside gloss white for better reflection:
added warm white LEDs for lighting
I chased a coolant leak for months:
- changed old hoses
- replaced radiator with an aluminum Spectre Prenium version
- changed thermostat
- changed radiatorcap
chased oil leak for months,
- changed oil pan gasket
- changed transmission pan gasket
in the end we recently had the heads of the engine replaced:
- new rockers
- revised heads
- new valve seats
- new pushrods
- new gaskets
and suddenly all our oil and coolant leaks stopped...thanks the lord!
I also replaced the valve cover gaskets and painted the covers:
- replaced the ignition wires
- replaced the ignition springs and weights for a flatter and quicker advance because we now only drive Propane.
replaced the IMPCO 300A bifuel mixer for a propane only IMPCO 425 mixer:
in the previous picture you can see i changed the throttle spring setup, because I wasnt happy with the way the original setup was stressing the throttle shaft in the throttle body:
I went with the better setup you can see in this picture:
you can also see I added a MSD 6AL box I got my hands on for a nice price from a friend.
we removed all the eco-smog-junk we could
The red was getting pretty bad and paint was lettin go all over the car so I gave it the cheap mans paintjob and rolled it with Rust-O-Leum glossy black and white last summer....
picture at the beach last summer:
added a sunvisor
and recently I made some Autopal headlights into projectors with Morimoto Mini H1 projectors and 5000K xenon bulbs...out is great and finally I can see where I go at night:
still need to put the lower headlights back in
old output with halogen bulbs above and new output with xenon projectors below...big difference aint it?
also replaced the brakes pads and cilinders on all four wheels.
and made some audio midifications.
my own front door panels:
GRrrrrrr...hahahaha...my wifes idea...
I have put LED's in allmost all the lights of the car, because I was tired or replacing bulbs...and the output of the LEDs is much better..
I recently added an extra 70 liter lpg tank inside:
and swapped the TH40-NP208 combo for a TH700R4-NP208 combo I bought.
I had to cut the balans pipe to get the trans and transfer case out
I think that is all for now...
added an extra tranny cooler in the return line
and made a DIY gear indicator, because my original is broken en blocked by the small gauge I have for keeping track of my mileage.
painted and cleaned up the air filter housing
I still have lots of stuff I wanna do...
- put a new headliner in
- clean up the engine bay some more
- paint interior also black and white (is still red, hahaha)
- make my own grill using aluminium mesh
and I would love to swap for a modern engine and trans...some LSx engine and 4L8E transmission...man that would be sweet...
thats it for now...
