Cleaning air-filters

A while back I installed a K&N air filter in my wife's Prius and I checked on it this weekend and it was - I'd say about 30% blocked. Aside from spending about $20 on K&N's filter re-charging kit, what can be used to clean and oil the filter?

a $2 can of napa brake cleaner spray generally does a good job if sprayed from the inside toward the outside , opposite the normal air flow direction, but do it outside your shop in the open air where the dripping dirty crud won,t get every where, and you won,t be breathing the fast evaporating fumes, Use of a light spray of PAM cooking oil spray, on the filter medium, seems to trap crud on the filter surface rather well in my experience

X2

THANKS!

I need to do that too...

Thanks, I had a guess brake cleaner could do the job, but I wanted to hear from you guys that know better. Carb and choke cleaner would have been my second guess. I wouldn't have thought of Pam, I'll use that.
