Climbing temps in a c4. Imagine that.

I didnt like the 84s fan kicking on @ 230 so I installed a new switch that turns on 200 /off 185. I also bought a 180 t stat and went to change it but found a 160 in it so I left it. Now it runs hotter than ever and the fan seems to turn very slow.It would lower the temp fine when it kicked on at 230 before I messed with it. :? The dash says alts charging @14+.I want to check the alternator w my voltmeter but cant remember how to do it. The battery has been dead the last 2 times Ive let it sit for a week. After I ran it today volt meter shows battery is holding 13.1 amps. Any Ideas? Between this and the stupid thermactor set up im about ready to drink myself dumber  .

no matter what the t-stat temp ive always found drilling 6-too-8 3/32" holes in the flange helped stabilize temp swings, remember a t-stat has ZERO effect on max temp it only controls MINIMUM TEMPS

ID check the fans as they may not be getting full voltage
