Copper spray...

Will soon be slapping on my some head gaskets...

Now I have read here and other places that it is a good idea to spray gaskets with copper sray before installing (still wet) under heads.

Why is this helpful?

I take it that any decent autoshop should carry copper spray, right?

it fills in micro gaps in the head gasket/cylinder head contact area, and forms a semi flexible barrier that's highly heat resistant.
Ive always sprayed both sides of head gaskets and installed them damp and had good results (keep in mind I mostly use solid copper head gaskets or embossed stamped metal shim head gaskets or composite head gaskets with metal surfaces)

youll occasionally find uses for a high temp rated silicone sealant
like ultra-copper that has about twice the temp tolerance of the common black RTV

don,t forget to dip bolt threads in sealant before assembling heads to prevent coolant seeping up head bolt threads
