It used to take just seconds for the coil symbol to go out and then I could go for starting. Now it's about 3 minutes or more to be ready to start. Is it the extra cold weather or are the glow plugs going bad? How do I test or solve what may become a bigger problem.
Thanks

Longer in the cold is normal.. but 3 minute?
Gotta fix this before it hurt your truck.
I think more that 20-30 second is hurting the system.

First, id check the voltage at each glow plug.
then id check the resistance of the glow plugs.
And next, the glowplug control system(wich am unfamiliar with the duramax)

With an OBD 2 Scanner like a Snap On Modis or similar you can Moniter Each individual Glow Plug current draw. See if any are weak or burnt out.
The Duramax Glow plug module is located on thw Drivers firewall recall Rich.
It will have a large 5/16 " diameter Red power wire running to the Glow plug module.
