Im too chicken to paint one of our classics so Ive decided to use our skid loader or dump truck as a gienua pig. I have a few books but they dont seem to cover enough hands on stuff. Id like someone to recommend a set of DVDs or something that will give me a little better footing.

Ive been accumulating tools but thats a whole different post.

I ran a body shop for years, even after I got in the upholstery business. I honestly believe you will learn more from talking to a painter/body man and hands on experience. Paint the loader until you get it right.

now IM not a paint and body guy but IVE done lots of that type of work, heres a few obsevations

(1) getting the body work darn near perfect is REALLY important because well done paint will make every flaw in the surface finnish stick out like a strobe light in a dark field at night, don,t rush the body prep. you better get it wet sandeded to a minimum of a real smooth 600 grit finish before even thinking about primer and 800 grit is better!

(2) there is wet sanding paper that looks like screening for wet sanding that won,t clog up as fast

(3) talk to the wholesale auto body shop supply store guys if you can get access

The local paint supplier is an asshole. They like to talk down to you like your at a boat dealer.

I dont know any painters that are worth a darn.

Oh well, Ill surf around and see what I can find.Thanks.

It's just hard to give truly instructional advice on something this sophisticated online. Sorry.

No apology needed. I think I just need to do it and quit messing around.

Learning from my mistakes has been a big learning tool for me.
