now back in the day, when muscle cars were far more common on the streets,a 1967 ford fairlane with a 390-406-427 ford F.E. engine assembled by someone who knew what he was doing was fully capable of keeping up with the road runners with their 383-440 wedge engines and Chevrolet 396-402-427 big block chevelles , many guys like to kid about fords, being slow, but the truth is that in the hands of a decent engine builder the fords, mopar, and Chevy engines were very similar in power in most of the street driven muscle cars of that era, and the Olds,Pontiac, and Buick engines could at times make surprising power, in skilled hands,
but the parts availability at the time muscle cars were most common (1965-1974 0r so)favored the Chevy, ford, mopar, Pontiac brand names at that time.

one of my freinds drove a 1967 fairlane with a 427 ford and a manual 4 speed that regularly embarrassed, a great many cars
it had headers, dual quads, and a crane solid lifter cam, and some minor head work but it easily made 470 plus hp which at that time was impressive

I spend about 45 minutes yesterday helping one of Franks friends figure out why his dual quad intake, which up until recently had worked rather well, was now giving him problems.
It was just was not running correctly, a bit of detective work and testing, and a few questions asked showed that he had replaced a leaking carburetor base gasket with a generic gasket that was a bit too small for the secondary throttle blades on the vacuum secondaries, on the front carb and as a result the secondaries on that carb would only open about 1/3rd of the way, and that jammed the linkage so the rear carbs secondaries would only open about 3/4 of what they would previously.
an exacto knife and some trimming cleared the issue, I know lots of guys fail to realize the gaskets come in several sizes, and the wrong size WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS

BTW I WONDER IF VERY MANY GUYS BOTHER TO READ INSTRUCTIONS, when they purchase parts

heres a fuel filter I see some guy installed on his 750 holley carb equipped car and he wonders why he runs out of fuel in third gear, think about it, hes got a fuel filter rated at 130 gallons per hour , certainly adequate...until you realize hes using a manual fuel pump that produces maybe 9psi and the filter flow rates rated at 75 psi, , more than 8.3 times the pressure, so hes likely getting 1/6-1/8th the flow at 9 psi
