well I WAS going to take pictures, but replacement of the latch parts attached to the glass hatch is a TOTAL NO BRAINER! total replacement time under 5 minutes with only a Phillips screw driver and a magic marker to mark the outside latch plate location EXACTLY, so you can replace it without getting anything mis-aligned
: cheers:
btw I got an EMAIL from a CHEVY dealer who read this
nuts #14041906 $16.07 EACH
pins #14076561 .092 cent each
other parts required 1020987 28.57
14049114
total comes to $75 which is not all that bad considering its list dealer prices, and he was nice enought to post the info to me in the EMAIL so I ordered from him
The two big black button head bolts on the outside of the glass are short bolts with internal threads, and square shanks so they can’t easily turn once inserted into the square holes in the internal plate with the loop the latch hooks too. there’s a thin cork washer/gasket that goes on them between the glass and the under side of the bolt head, to prevent water seepage, on the under or interior side there’s a plate with a loop and a stud, the stud goes to the drivers side of the car, there’s a plastic mounting gasket between the plates base and the glass to absorb shock and aid in moisture seepage prevention, but mostly to protect the hatch glass, and there’s two Phillips screws that thread into the inside of the button head bolts, these bolts come factory coated with loctite
Procedure
Mark the outside button locations with a magic marker
Open the hatch
Mark the inside latch plate location with a magic marker
Holding the button head bolt in place, use the Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the two inside screws
Put the gaskets in place, on the under side of the button head bolts and between the locking loop and the glass, align the plate and button head bolts and replace the screws CAREFULLY, while making damn sure the bolts don’t contact the glass, tighten the bolt/screw assembly making sure to align the latch with the markers outline
Your done!
Trust me! it took ALOT longer to type this than the job takes to do!!: laughing:
