enjoy the little CUTE KID, when they are that age they are wonderful, you pretty much know what to expect, where they are and what they are likely to do if you keep a good eye on them, but soon enough they become highly mobile and then they start getting into EVERYTHING!

looks like a bit of time with a sand blaster and new paint might have that differential looking nearly new!

the harbor freight blaster and grit may not be near top quality but for little jobs that you don,t do all that often like cleaning years of rust and dirt of a salvage yard differential housing they come in very handy

Re: He Man Rear Differential 1957 Olds 9.3 Last in a 5.0 Sta

I want a 5.0 Mustang eventual.
Not so big into brand loyality as most.
Just the 5.0 Mustang has the Best Chassis Platform of any American car ever built to date to Run into 8-second 1/4 mile times
Do it for $10-$15K.
Can't do that with any Corvette Grumpy. Even if given to you Free.
Hell guys spending $10k in a C4 still only have a true high 11-second car.

Cute kids and nice looking family Brian! Wish I had your layout, with plenty
of room to grow and store things!

Re: He Man Rear Differential 1957 Olds 9.3 Last in a 5.0 Sta

I have one of those little handheld blasters Grumpy.
It works Ok. Just a Messy job.
Summit Racing sells blasting abrasives too.
Bought crushed Walnut shells to clean the Vette 700R4 case when I rebuilt it in 2010.
Wasn't too impressed with cleaning abilty. Took forever.

Professional Glass Beads seem to work best.
Have to order it.

Looking for cheap fun too Rick.
Still weighing options in my head BBC or BB Olds 425.
Either has to run on pee water pump gas & factory iron heads.

Re: He Man Rear Differential 1957 Olds 9.3 Last in a 5.0 Sta

im in the same boat as you brian, i cant wait to get another fox body stang... such great platforms. if i knew then what i know now i never would have sold my last one.

Re: He Man Rear Differential 1957 Olds 9.3 Last in a 5.0 Sta

I know Phil. I love my C4 Corvette Too..It just takes so much $$$ & effort to build it into a true drag race machine.
Been buying parts for it for years now.
Time to stop for a while & concentrate on my orher cars.
Pontiacs. Use what I have already.

I know Grumpy ia favoring the 427 Tall Deck BBC in the 1963 GP.

Re: He Man Rear Differential 1957 Olds 9.3 Last in a 5.0 Sta

I took a look at your link quick Grumpy. Thanks . Have to read it in depth at lunchtime.
A friend has a stockpile of Oval Port BBC Heads. At least a Dozen sets. And a few sets of LS5-LS6 454 Heads.
He knows what he has so they won't come free.
Also has all mounts, brackets ,& Pulleys I need.
Those I can get at a decent price.
Need a Turbo 400 BOP To Chevy Block adapter plate. The TH400 Behind the 403 Olds now is a good one.
Shifts clean & ultra fast. Burns tires on gearshifts tough. Want to use it.
Chevy TH400 I have also need to be rebuilt. Tore it down already.

Re: He Man Rear Differential 1957 Olds 9.3 Last in a 5.0 Sta

Read the Article Grumpy.
It won't be ideal. Its the 1970-1/2 RAM AIR 4 462 Titanium Valves way I used.
Race Gas 110 motor octane now over $8 per gallon.
Must use SD455 Poncho way.
Apply to the 433-427 Tall Deck BBC.

Re: He Man Rear Differential 1957 Olds 9.3 Last in a 5.0 Sta

I don't see anything wrong with the Tall Deck Peanut port heads Grumpy.
Change Cam Dynamics and pack the cylinder pressure in.
Breathe Deep. Squeeze tight. Vertex Magneto light it off.
Exhaust best we can for now without headers.

I looked Grumpy.
Go back to my thread if you want to.
Fill it up.
I am looking at things from a budget standpoint.
I figure I can gather $1k together soon for the 1963 GP.
Nothing Performed like a Pontiac 455 Tripower with a 280 Magnum cam .
4X heads. Stock log exhaust manifolds. 2-1/2 dual exhaust.
Poncho headers for Early full size Pontiacs were only made by Nunzi.
And when he was still in business & selling not cheap.
$600-900.
Nunzi retired & closed his doors.
Forget about Ready to bolt in headers for BBC 427 Tall deck or 425 Olds V8.
Never existed for my car.

headers for the standard deck height block usually fit similar cars with minor or no mods required
peanut port heads on a big block chevy need to be pocket ported to flow semi decently ,Ive always found the dual quad intakes like the more modern air gap design easily out perform the tri-power or three deuce intakes, but as were on a budget Id select a decent oval port intake
the only factory dedicated peanut port intake is this one

http://www.holley.com/data/Products/Tec ... 80rev1.pdf

BUT I HAD BETTER RESULTS WITH THIS INTAKE even though the ports don,t exactly match the heads port locations perfectly, for the $12 extra in my opinion theres no reason to buy the 8122 when the 8019 works noticeably better, ,look on craigs list and local flea markets you occasionally see them used for under $120

Re: He Man Rear Differential 1957 Olds 9.3 Last in a 5.0 Sta

I am working on fitting the 427 Talk deck BBC Into the $1k Budget Grumpy.
My Summit watch list is at $510.00.
WEIAND STEALTH 8019 INTAKE.
MOROSO INTAKE SPACERS FOR TALL DECK 10.200 BBC
TCI TURBO 400 BOP TRANS ADAPTER TO CHEVY BBC & SBC ENGINES
ARP CHROMEMOLY OIL PUMP DRIVESHAFT BBC
FEL PRO GASKET SET KS2618. 396-427-454 BBC

CAM & HEADERS MAY HAVE TO WAIT.

Whats inviting is the Shortblock machine work is done.

Olds 425 needs to be torn down & gone through.
Have all parts to rebuild it.

BBC Has the Superior oil system.

427 Tall Deck has 4-bolt mains on all 5.
Decent forged Rods.
Forged Steel Crankshaft
Forged pistons.
Factory Dual Row Roller Timing Chain Set
Run on 87 RM/2 Gas as is.

Its a torque engine stock.
Moves a 16,000 Gross vehicle weight Farmers truck with Clark 4-speed, 5.86 Gears in Eaton Rockwell Rear with 40 - 50 " inch Tall Dual Rear tires with 40,000-60,000 load of corn easy to the lical Ethanol plant.
Worked on many trucks with the 366/427 BBC Tall Deck.
Used in 80,000 # water Fire Trucks Too.
Take the Governor carb off & install a 750 CFM Holley 4160 Vacuum Secondary carb , I have buried the speedos in those 1970-80'S Chevie Farm Trucks Easy past 85mph.

damn all forged form the factory huh? thats awesome... maybe you can up the compression and throw some corn piss in there and really turn up the juice... E85 style!

might need to get you one of these tho!

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/qft-q ... /overview/

I added to my Summit Watch List Phil. Up to $786.00
Bare necessities required to make the 427 BBC Tall deck a runner.
Still no hot camshaft, lifters, pushrods, Cloyes True Roller Race chain set added & matching valvesprings. No Race style roller rocker arms.

Re: He Man Rear Differential 1957 Olds 9.3 Last in a 5.0 Sta

Its Poormans Hotrodding & Racing today Phil.
Have that Fuckass Bama screwing all.
His goal is to make all bankrupt & Homeless that Fucker.

The 1965 Olds 425 A engine is winning.
Best bang for HP & TORQUE VALUE.
Bone Stock 360 HP @ 4,800 RPM's.
470 Ft/lbs torque @ 2,800 RPM's.
4.125" bore. 3.9375" (3-15/16") crank stroke. 7" Long Rods.
Steel forged crank. Steel Forged Rods.
High Nickle Content Block & Heads.
Its medium high compression allready at 10.0:1 static.
Isky Cam & Lifters bought. Cloyes Olds V8 True Roller.
Timing chain set.
Crower valvesprings & Chromemoly retainers & Billet valvelicks.
Viton valvestem seals.
Total Seal Gapless.
Fel Pro Gasket set.
Melling oil pump.
Offy Intake.
Edelbrock AFB style carb.
Olds V8 Vertex Mag.
A casting Olds heads flow 260+ Cfm stock intake side.
6 degree valve inclination angle heads.
Direct drop in as the 403 Olds now.
Engine mounts made fabricated prior.

Like a LS 5.3 OR 6.0 engine Phil. Good bang for the $$.

Re: He Man Rear Differential 1957 Olds 9.3 Last in a 5.0 Sta

those heads with some simple porting could be good for 500 ponies at around 5000 rpm! thats a whole lot of love from a basic factory setup

I don't need 500 HP in the 1963 Grand Prix right now Phil.
Its just on a tight budget right now.
99% Of Olds 425 parts bought & put away.
Machine & Assemble.
Its going to take $2k to build that 427 Tall deck right.
Hanging onto to it for now. No sense getting rid of it after 15 years.

Legends of Olds 425's taking on Street 425 Hemus at 425 HP Rating.
Maybe bullshit.
Only way to find out is build it & Drive it.
Curious also what 5.38 :1 Gears Posi unit will do in the 9.3 Rear diff of the Grand Prix.
Fit 29-31" tall rear tires.
That 3rd member ready to race.

Re: He Man Rear Differential 1957 Olds 9.3 Last in a 5.0 Sta
