yeah! the skill and ability to think on your feet and not be limited to thinking that only the original components in the drive train,
can be used, but having the awareness that modifications can and at times should be considered.
is critical to having the ability to make repairs and get a car/truck working.
I had a buddy , extensively repair,rebuild and replace a 10 bolt G.M. rear differential in his 496 BBC nova about 5 times, over a 3 year period,
when I asked him why he didn,t just upgrade to a 12 bolt, 9" ford or dana 60 differential,
he got that deer in the headlights stare and said,
"YOU CAN DO THAT???"
his look was so genuine and confusing I busted out laughing.
we found a dana 60 out of a dodge truck, at a local salvage yard, for well under the cost of his last 10 bolt rebuild,
and even with the cost of modifications,, new rear wheels,
spring perches welding and a new drive shaft ,
being built to do the conversion,he saved money and for several years now has had zero differential failures
