I am Looking For Sidework too Phil.
Vette together & Runs. Driven only once so far this year.
Fixing the Wifes Honda, expenses, having to pay to have my small Farm property Surveyed Recent, put in dent in my plans.
Everyone is broke it seems.
Why I shifted plans to my old Grand Prix.
Cheap Fun.

I can't swing the $$$ for an oil Cooler & #12 AN Lines Teflon lined Race stainless braided hose right now Grumpy. Want that on the T/A eventual. Earls stacked plate cooler & all Earls AN Fittings. Priced out in past $500-600 Required.

I can afford the 3-quart Moroso Accusump & brackets.
Familiar with Moroso & like the high quality parts.
Typically choose them 1st.
Can afford to build the custom Ammo box Olds V8 oil pan.
Better than stock for sure.
Nice place to tap into on front of the 425 Rocket. Right below front china wall. Main engine casting # there too.

The most unlikely parts are selling Grumpy.
List & try it too.

I bought another 9.3 Pontiac Rear Grumpy.
Complete Drum to Drum.
All original.
From a 1959 Catalina.
Got it at a good price. Couldn't pass it up.
Drive & pick it up this weekend.

I would buy Mopar Musclecar Dana 60 B & E Body but at $2000-5000 each its not really a good buy for me.

Ebay sales doing Good.
.99 Cent start price. No Reserve.
Guys want parts & Bidding away.
Pontiac Muscle Still Red Hot .
Better than Corvettes right now.

Re: He Man Rear Differential 1957 Olds 9.3 Last in a 5.0 Sta

Picked up another '57-'64 9.300" Pontiac- Olds Rear complete drum to drum.
From a 1959 Catalina. 3.08 Gears. Gear ratio Code "0". Non Posi open Carrier.
Unusual that it has a 3- Link rear suspension layout as the 1958 Pontiacs.
Documented as a 4- link layout in 1959. No one ever bothered checking. Seen the 1959 Catalina it was removed from.
Hard to find as a complete unit today.

If you are not careful, your son will have it rebuilt before you can get it
off the trailer!

Now you just bought one ...... right? The other one just happen to be
on the trailer already.

Re: He Man Rear Differential 1957 Olds 9.3 Last in a 5.0 Sta

Yeah Rick.

I know of 2 more complete 9.3's. Still in the cars.
not sure what to do with them all but save them from extinction .
The crusher.
Wish I had a 9" inch Ford & set it right behind a 9.3, Get a positive picture how massive they are. Reason why old Nitro burners & Gassers used them.

Re: He Man Rear Differential 1957 Olds 9.3 Last in a 5.0 Sta

thats awesome, now you need to call eaton and have them make you a run of lockers for the 9.3

buy 10 of them, you can fill up all the diffs you have and a couple extra, definitely makes your rear ends much more valuable.

Re: He Man Rear Differential 1957 Olds 9.3 Last in a 5.0 Sta

Those Very Rare Today 9.3 Detroit Lockers worth $1000-2,000 bucks Phil.
Spool less $$$.
Want 1 more Factory Posi unit.
This coming winter & will find & buy it.
Have 2 spares then.

yea that why im saying call eaton and have them make 10 for you special order... its not like they threw away the tooling... they shouldnt bust your balls too bad over 10 units... and then you can rebuild all your diffs new with lockers and get real $$ on ebay.

Re: He Man Rear Differential 1957 Olds 9.3 Last in a 5.0 Sta

Rick has taken some intrest in these 9.3 Rears.
I have one from A 1957 Olds. Nice. No rust pits.
I cleaned it down to bare steel & iron.
Didn't take much. Just an angle grinder with a cup wire wheel.
Painted it entire in GE Glyptol Red Epoxy Paint.
Wait & see what his Hotrod plans are.
Break his 9" Ford racing this summer.....
Make me proud to build a 9.3 for him. Bob & Rick can 4-link it in the T-bucket together.
No plans to resell any 9.3's otherwise.
Save for me & my Boys.

Oh yeah, that would be a great project for both of us!

It was Tuesday morning I was driving to work in Chicago .
1 hour commute in my old 1994 K1500 Suburban TBI 350 .
I came to a stop and heard a loud bang.
Unsure what it was.
During lunch hour I checked out brakes up front. Ok.
Wheel bearings Ok.
Pedal was spongy and brake light on.
No brake fluid leaks.
Put all new lines on 3 years ago hand bent by me.

I thought the Kesley Hays ABS unit failed.
No easy way to bypass.
Job for at home.
I limped back home and drove carefully after work.
At night I removed alk 4 wheels.
When I removed the Left Rear Brake drum parts fell out.
The LR Star wheel brake adjuster assembly snapped bent over in half.
I looked online at the local auto parts stores.
Not available stocked. Have it Wensday or Thursday .

I thought about what to do...........
I went into my parts from a 1957 Pontiac Olds 9.3 Rear diff I have apart.
The drivers side brake adjuster the same length.
But much thicker and stronger.

I Installed the 1957 9.3 adjuster.
Perfect fit.
Adjusted rear drums and tires wheels.
Test drove.
My Suburban stops like new.
Like my 1987 Corvette.

yeah! the skill and ability to think on your feet and not be limited to thinking that only the original components in the drive train,
can be used, but having the awareness that modifications can and at times should be considered.
is critical to having the ability to make repairs and get a car/truck working.
I had a buddy , extensively repair, rebuild and replace a 10 bolt G.M. rear differential in his 496 BBC nova about 5 times, over a 3 year period,
when I asked him why he didn,t just upgrade to a 12 bolt, 9" ford or dana 60 differential,
he got that deer in the headlights stare and said,
"YOU CAN DO THAT???"
his look was so genuine and confusing I busted out laughing.

we found a dana 60 out of a dodge truck, at a local salvage yard, for well under the cost of his last 10 bolt rebuild,
and even with the cost of modifications,, new rear wheels,
spring perches welding and a new drive shaft ,
being built to do the conversion,he saved money and for several years now has had zero differential failures
