Hello from AZ

I am an old duffer that has just traded into a 1965 Olds F85. With the car came a 71 built 455. Plan on installing this engine in the 65 and taking out the V6 Buick thats in it. I think I will need a lot of help on this one. Nothing came with the 455. No brackets for for Alternator, power steering or anything else. Right off the git go here I need help on this problem. On all 455 engines there is of course a oil filler tube. This one has none. In the the hole where the filler tube goes is what looks like a freeze plug. Anyone ever seen that?? and how in the world I find one to put there??

Welcome to the forum SSelcamino396, is there a nickname you would like to use?

My very first car was a Maroon 65 F85 with a 330 auto. It was in great condition and only $350.

Brian is working on something similar to what you have, he'll be around very soon.

A lot of us can't read so we like pictures, can you send some when you can?

Went to the site on posting -clear-photos. I can't adsorb that much infor right off the git go. I am old.

Welcome.

I have a few Olds V8 Big Blocks put away.
I am a Pontiac guy but Like Olds V8 engines too.
Some of the Olds V8 oil filler tubes have intentional Flats in them . I recall right now those are for the 1978 - 1979 403 Olds V8 Trans Ams to clear the Shaker hood scoop.

Oldsmobile V8 engines used to be plentiful just a few years back.
I think cash for clunkers killed off the surplus supply.
Virtually non existent now.
All are in private hands and collectors.

Ebay is a good place to look.
Right now its kinda dead on Fleabay....Springtime, April 15 Tax time is when guys start to list and sell parts to get $$$$$ for their own projects.

The accessory brackets complete are hard to find right now for Olds V8 engines.
They tend to be Model Year & car application specific.

There is March performance.....But the accessory bracket kits start at $600 -2,000.00.

I don't have any extra Olds V8 acessory brackets for Olds V8 right now....I am using them on my 1965 Olds 425 V8 project into my 1963 Pontiac Grand Prix.

Factory 1964-1965 Olds F85 330 ci V8 accessory brackets will bolt right up to your Olds 455.
You must use the later Olds V8 Water pump.
Its one inch taller than 1964 Olds 330 V8 & 1965-67 Olds 425.
Also need the appropriate crankshaft & water pump pulleys.

Wow learned more in that email then all the others combined. If the filler tubes have intentional Flats in them becasue they were in the 1978 - 1979 403 Olds V8 Trans AMs to clear the Shaker hood scoop then why does my 455 have one in it? This engine has been professionally built and Dino at 500hp and ran the quarter in 11:42. Could somehow this be a 403 block? I ran the numbers and it checks as a 455 unless I am reading the numbers wrong. I am new to Olds. Been a Chevy man my whole life but traded in to this olds an engine. I guess I had better start looking at the junk yards to see what I can find. I have some brackets with the engine but they don't seem to fit anywhere.

The Oil filler tube presses in.
It can be removed with effort.
Yes check the Junyards around You.

You can use oil filler tubes from another engine.
Its reproduced.
NOS GM parts hard to find for Olds V8 today.

welcome to the website!

yes a very nice looking car, I wish I could find something similar in decent condition

Now that's one nice clean car you have there...... beautiful. And it should be pretty fast to with the new engine.

Thanks for the pics!

That's about the same condition as my old F85. Mine had Chevrolet Motor Division Ralleys, center cap and beauty rings.

Trading fair and agreeable value for my '65 GTO with title for just labor on my 71 vette or 71 Riviera boat tail (if not sufficient additional funds can be paid to complete). I can ship both at the same time.
The work should be very easy, no heavy or machine work.
