Hello From Central Cali.

Hello all. My name is Matt and I've been using the heck out the knowledge contained in this forum for a while now on my current build. I started the process of restoring my first ride (63 chevy C10) but I've been out of the motor building thing for a long time. When I was a kid I would throw caution to the wind, slap them together and start thinking about the next one. Well I'm older now and am more interested in building one engine right so I dont have to "think about the next one". Current build is an 10.5 to 11:1-ish compression (12cc domes under 75cc chambers) 327 with AFR 180cc heads and a Howards 110245-10 retrofit hydraulic roller. Have an RPM Air Gap manifold but thinking I may go to a standard RPM manifold so I can run an oil fill tube, and I have a Holley 750 vac secondary but thinking I may try one of those new edelbrock AVS2 650 cm carbs. Thanks for letting me listen in!

Welcome!
Have to look up the Howard's cam specs yet.
I favor the Holley 4160 750cfm.

That New Edelbrock 850 Cfm AVS With Annular boosters is A-ok.

keep us up to date on your progress and if you have questions or come across any tips you might want to post please do so!

I went back and forth between the tech guys at Howards and AFR and between the three of us we cobbled this combo together. I love a really choppy idle but this about as much cam as I care to run anymore. I guess good manners in a street vehicle have become more important to me now that I'm older. Lol!

It has been the build from hell. Bought it from a friend that had a "reputable" shop in our area build it about 15 years ago. Figured while it was still on an engine stand I'd pull it apart just to put a fresh rear main seal in it. Everything was wrong. Rings not gapped, cam bearings installed with oil hole at 6 o' clock. Wasn't line bored after studs were installed. Holes werent bottom tapped, so the studs stuck up too far which caused the nuts to run out of threads and bottom out on the shoulders. And finally, not enough oil clearance on the rod bearings. Just waiting on a set of .020 + .001 bearings from King Bearing so I can button the bottom end of this thing up and then I can move on to valve train stuff.

yeah theres a great many "reputable shops" that are only able to stay in business,
because of the huge surplus of customers that are almost or are TOTALLY CLUELESS
that have no idea what quality work, is
vs the all too common, hit it a lick,
bill the hell out of the customer,
and push it out the door , work, that only passes because,
the vast majority of customers can,t tell the difference.
