He Grumpy,

I'm a new Corvette owner 92 C4 LT-1 automatic. I bought this car cause I've always wanted one and love the way they handle and drive. I found one here locally with 83K on it and it seemed to drive pretty well and the owner has taken good care of it cosmetically.

The car has sat for a while with minimum drive time and I want to give it a good tune up and bring it up to speed. I'm not interested at this time in building a monster Hot Rod, just a sweet stocker than runs and sounds good. I've got all the factory manuals and want to put together a plan to achieve this goal.

I've been reading a lot of your information on another forum which has been helpful but I am overwhelmed with the amount of information and where I need to start. I've got some average mechanical skills and can troubleshoot problems logically.
I've changed the oil and serviced the transmission and did a visual inspection up on the rack. the car needs front brake pads and generally looks ok.
I'm going to start with the basics with a check of engine error codes and go from there.

I appreciate any advice you or this forum can provide!

step one when you buy a corvette, is to buy the correct matching factory shop manual

it may not have all the answers but its a great place to start looking because once you have a shop manual, youve got at least some reliable info and usually some diagrams
next youll need a timing light, vacuum gauge and a V.O.M. meter
and a code reader sure will help

Thanks Grumpy! and Merry Christmas!

The car came with the factory manuals and I've been going through those for sure. I have a VOM but do not have a timing light or vacuum gauge nor a fuel pressure gauge. Tell me more about this OBD1 code reader?? What do you use? or do you count the flashing check engine light? the car seems to run fine at speed and shifts ok but on acceleration the engine will not "kick down" from overdrive to 3rd smoothly. when it does hit third the power comes on like you would expect. I've disconnected the battery to clear the ECM fault codes and was going to drive it tomorrow then check if it throws any fault codes.

Any advice on Code reader, gauges and timing light brands would be mucho appreciated

thank you!

RS
