help me out guys, I misplaced some info
I used to have 99% of everything memorized and the part numbers memorized or written down for easy access, but Ive mis-placed some info
I used to have a list of the extra/extra long OIL FILTERS that fit the first gen sbc and bbc chevy v8 engines, most common oil filters you get in the auto parts store that the parts books suggest are about 3"-3.5" long theres a few that are listed as extra capacity that are about 4.25"-4.94" long but there ARE a few that have the correct diam. threads and sealing rings that were not specifically listed as chevy v8 oil filters that will work as direct replacements that are 5"-6" long,IF I remember correctly the thread is 13/16-16 in. thread ID, 3.78 in. OD, and its that list of alternative oil filters that hang down almost to the length the oil pan extends below the engine Ive misplaced.

These might be the AC and NAPA filters you are referring to.

, thanks guys

Ive used these for years like popcorn at the movies when I build most Chevy v8 engines, and buy them by the case, but for some reason the mind hit a blank wall and I could not remember the number, and Id cleaned up and threw out the old boxes.
obviously if you've got header clearance issues you may need to use a smaller filter but if you've got the room a longer quality filter with its greater surface area has advantages
keep in mind oil filters are critical as they trap crud and metallic debris that can quickly destroy an engine if it circulates with the oil flow, the larger surface area, of the longer extended length filters, adds internal surface area, and reduces the flow restriction and tendency for any crud entering the filter to be allowed to bye-pass the filter, and selecting a decent quality filter and quality oil, helps maintain a engines moving parts.
